Now, I will be honest, I do not watch American Idol and I heard this dude Lambert or whatever his name is can sing. I will go to You Tube and watch, but for Queen to consider him as singer? This is Queen! True, the name was damaged a bit with all the collaborations and re-recordings over the years, and then Queen + Paul Rodgers was just and odd fit, even though Rodgers is a legend.
But, this just makes me wince.

From Billboard.com:

"American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert's performance with rock band Queen on the finale of the TV singing contest this week has the British band thinking about a new front man.
"Amongst all that furor, there wasn't really a quiet moment to talk," Queen guitarist Brian May told Rolling Stone in an interview released on Friday.

"But and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with at some point. It's not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn't that easy. But I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there," May told the magazine in an e-mail exchange.

Queen, one of the biggest rock bands of the 1970s and '80s, has not had a permanent frontman since the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991.

The English band recently ended a four-year partnership with Paul Rodgers, the former lead singer in the bands Free and Bad Company.

Lambert, 27, dubbed "Glambert" by fans, lost out in the "American Idol" final to Kris Allen. But his vocal skills and flair for the dramatic made him a good fit for performances with both Queen and glam rockers KISS in the show's finale on Wednesday.

Perhaps a name adjustment would be in order?

I was against the Queen + Paul Rodgers line-up from the jump.

Queen + Glambert, however, I'd be intrigued about. I couldn't stand him on AI...but this *might* actually be a good fit, IMO.

I'm sorry - was there another performance with Kiss other than the one posted on here? Because that wasn't a good fit, IMO. I haven't seen much of Mr. Lambert (will he put a bucket on his head if someone says 'mattress'?), but from what I've seen, he falls into the Christina Aguilera/Mariah Carey/add your favorite diva here school of "look how much range and technique I have". I wasn't impressed.

I'll admit, when I saw this story, I thought he might be a better fit than Paul Rodgers was, but this still feels like a bad move. From his point of view, he goes from the possibility of establishing an identity and career to becoming, essentially, a tribute band singer. From Queen's POV, what is there to gain except a few more bucks? He's not the second coming of Freddie Mercury, and quite frankly, they're never going to catch that lightning in a bottle again. That was a once in a lifetime deal.

Besides we haven't heard anything from Mika lately. (I thought he was the second coming of Mr. Mercury?)

OK, I checked out the clips. I agree with Alan-this guy overdoes things so much, it's obvious that he wants you to know he's just so good.
He's got a pretty damn good voice with nice range, I'll say that. He was awful singing with KISS-he overdid it and sang way out of key. He was good on the Queen song-better than the other guy by far, but he was over the top there too, though with Queen it sort of made sense.
If Queen go this route and I've basically read there has been something of an offer, but this guy has a year contract of slavery to A.I. to complete and that might be the hangup, I'd be disappointed.
Speaking of hangup-Brian and Roger need to stop now. Although this would make a lot of money especially here in the States.
Kinda funny, Queen + Paul Rodgers wrote a song called "C-lebrity" on the new album bashing faceless stars of reality shows, etc., and this is what they're contemplating huh? Sad.
Get George Michael or Robbie Williams or Justin Hawkins if you must, but please don't do this guys!

I'm not sure what Tom Chaplin (of Keane)'s stage presence is like, but I think his voice would be a better fit for Queen than Lambert's
(Sorry, video can't be embedded... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC08xwrQ5gU

I posted on another thread that all I've seen of him was a 5 second clip singing with Kiss on the news. As I posted there, IF the 5 second clip was accurate, this guy is the best arena rock vocalist I've heard since Steve Perry. Since I only saw 5 seconds, the key for me is, "IF the 5 second clip was accurate".

Brian May and Roger Taylor without Freddie Mercury and John Deacon are as much Queen as Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend without Keith Moon and John Entwistle are the Who or Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr without John Lennon and George Harrison are the Beatles.

To quote Frank Zappa, "Ain't gwing happing."

I agree, though a high pitched vocalist will at least come closer then Paul Rogers who was as different from Freddie Mercury as 2 male rock singers could be.

Adam tends to over sing, He is a bit of a show-off but he could be reigned in a bit, he could be a good singer for a band like Queen.

I liked his cameo with KISS on the finale of AI. It hit the right tone which is fun! For me KISS is fun music.

Groan.

And I say that only because I didn't think of it first.
