I can only assume this is the same remaster that came out in 1997 and is just being re-released? That's what the notes imply. Mine is from Columbia and sounds excellent-no need for another one and I doubt this has new remastering. Anyone know for sure?

Editorial Reviews Product Description Originally released in 1987, this 1997 remastered version, available now through EMI, was the band's first release after the departure of Roger Waters in 1985, and features David Gilmour along with Floyd members Nick Mason & Richard Wright along with guests Tony Levin, Carmine Appice, Jim Keltner.

I still have my pre-Sony original Columbia CD from over twenty years ago.

What was the the recent Floyd Box Set 'By The Way' all about then?
Can someone explain why there needs to be multiple versions of the same CD with some apparent re-mastering or whatever?
As far as I am concerned the next re-mastering of a CD would have to be done on a High Res 96/24 bit version on a DVD or Blue Ray format and not on a format that is slowly being phased out anyway.

The "By the Way" box housed all the studio albums (no live albums or comps) with the latest mastering and housing the discs in mini-album replicas (like the Japanese imports). I sold off my old CD's and picked it up and glad I did. My only beef is it should have had a bonus disc that would have tied up all the loose ends, basically an expanded Relics. It was a limited edition set that you can still find out there due to the high price tag, although, I got mine for a very good deal at the time.
Floyd is not a band that has been re-issued or comped to death over the years. There was the original CD's in the '80s and then the remasters in the '90s, plus a couple of collectors items and a live album. The AMLOR release is a non-event, it's simply the album is now being distributed by EMI in the states instead of Columbia (who had the later Floyd albums in the US, while Europe was EMI from top to bottom).

Although if I'm not mistaken, the recent CD box set of original albums features the original artwork, does it not? That's one problem I have with my remasters of the Floyd catalog -- the cover art has been altered from the original artwork on most or all.
