Batman/Detective Comics (1981-1983) - Nearly two years of Batman tales by Gerry Conway, Gene Colan, and Don Newton. A strong revitalization of the character and his supporting cast that climaxed with his 500th appearance in Detective Comics. Great writing combined with great art on perhaps the most popular comics character of the 20th century.

Swamp Thing (Alan Moore)- The granddaddy of all things Vertigo, Moore took over this unassuming book and then took the comics world by storm. Never before has the phrase "everything you thought you knew is wrong" been so true, or created such amazing stories.

Loved the Newton art in Detective, but the Colan stuff never grabbed me... Swamp Thing is near perfection all around.

That was the era in which I bought every issue of Detective as it came out. I never really bought into the Swamp Thing. Not my kind of stuff.

I have to go with Newton and Colan. Colan was fired off batman when I was in his class. It was for Batman: Year One. He was confused by this.
