So, how dark should characters like Captain America or Green Lantern be?
Pow! Bam! Zip! Superheroes should be tongue-in-cheek wacky fun a la Adam West or Weisinger Superman! 5%  5%  [ 1 ]
High Adventure with some Soap Opera Melodrama a la Lee/Kirby FF or Ditko/Romita SR Spidey! 17%  17%  [ 3 ]
A few dark themes here and there but mostly High Adventure a la Claremont/Byrne X-Men or O'Neil/Adams Batman! 17%  17%  [ 3 ]
Sometimes Dark, Sometimes Light a la Miller's Daredevil or PAD's Hulk! 0%  0%  [ 0 ]
I like 'em dark and heavy-- Dark Knight Returns, The Ultimates, Brubaker's Cap, Bendis' DD! 5%  5%  [ 1 ]
I dunno, I like whatever. This and that. The Big Two don't need to have a character have a specific tone-- some All Ages, some Mature Readers Only. 52%  52%  [ 9 ]

I voted for the last option. One of the things I like best about Marvel and DC characters is that they're so open to interpretation. I do think that both companies have a tendency to take a cue from Hollywood and jump on the latest big thing (if a dark and gritty DD does well, then ALL of their books go dark and gritty for awhile).

That last option suits me fine. I like some of the Justice League kiddie comics, and I also like stuff like Supreme Power. I like a whole lot of stuff. It doesn't have to be all one way or the other.

There's room for everything but my favorite is High Adventure/Some Soap Opera
