This is making me crazy because I used to remember how to do this.
Please, someone help!
I've got an Excel spreadsheet open, and I want to make the left-most column frozen in place, so that no matter how far to the right I scroll I've always got that left column onscreen.
I know this is easy to do but I can't figure it out and I'm ready put my fist through the wall.
Split the window into two panes (drag the little thing at the end of the horizontal scroll bar so that the left pane is showing only column 1). Then use the Freeze Panes command (it's in the Window menu on the Mac...don't remember where on the PC).

Ah... In Excel 2007 for the PC, the Freeze Panes button is on the View tab of the ribbon. It can either freeze the current window split settings, or do just the top row or left column.
