THE BOXMASTERS CONTRIBUTE BONUS TRACK
"YESTERDAY GOT IN THE WAY" ON DOUG SAHM TRIBUTE CD

February 2009 -- The Boxmasters return with their most powerful record to date, Modbilly, on April 21st, their third release on Vanguard/Sawmill Records. Produced by W.R. "Bud" Thornton and J.D. Andrew, Modbilly reflects another great leap forward for The Boxmasters.

As with their acclaimed 2008 debut, The Boxmasters, Modbilly offers two sides of one compelling story. Disc one features twelve self-penned songs that are the most intensely felt, moving songs to ever appear on a Boxmasters recording. Such standouts include "Hollow Walls," "Going home" and the haunting "Turn It Over", written by Thornton and Brad Davis. (Click on http://tinyurl.com/TurnItOver to hear a sample of "Turn It Over").

Disc two includes an eclectic assortment of cover songs reflecting The Boxmasters taste and sensibility in a fascinating style: Tom Rush's "Merrimack County" to the classic country song "Half A Mind" (originally made famous by the great Roger Miller) to the Rolling Stones' "As Tears Go By" to John Hartford's "Gentle On My Mind." Yet, no Boxmasters release would be complete without the wit and wisdom one has come to expect reflected in the original wonderfully titled, "That's Why Tammy Has My Car."

With Modbilly, The Boxmasters (W. R. "Bud" Thornton on drums, lead and harmony vocals, J.D. Andrew on bass and guitar and harmony vocals and Mike Butler on guitar/Dobro and lap steel) have created an impressive musical double dose that makes a courageous, life-affirming statement.

Don't miss The Boxmasters when they perform two songs from Modbilly on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, April 21st on ABC!

These musical warriors will hit the road beginning in March with a number of stops throughout Texas including this year's South By Southwest festival on March 18th at Smokin' Music and on April 5th they kick off a second tour run with the legendary Willie Nelson (specific dates/venues/cities to be announced).

The Boxmasters also contributed the bonus track "Yesterday Got in The Way" to Keep Your Soul: A Tribute to Doug Sahm, (March 24th/Vanguard) which is available to consumers who purchase the CD from iTunes.

W.R. "Bud" Thornton... heh. Seen him live, though.

Thornton had some kind of minor meltdown in Canada recently and cancelled his canadian shows. His album had gotten pretty good reviews.Too bad.

from Wiki
"On April 8, 2009 he appeared on the national CBC Radio One program Q, hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, with the rest of his musical group The Boxmasters. During the first half of the interview, Thornton sounded nervous and confused, giving erratic answers, such as "I don't know" when asked how long the band had been together. When asked about his musical tastes and influences as a child, he gave his longest answer, but it was about his favorite magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland. He also stated that he had "instructed" the show's producers to not ask any questions about his career as a screenwriter and actor.[11][12] Ghomeshi, in introducing the band, mentioned the acting credentials of Thornton, but never directed his questions about this other career. Thornton, who was visibly upset, then complained about Canadians in general to a national radio audience since they didn't get up and move or throw things at the stage, referring to Canadians to being like mashed potatoes without the gravy.[13] This caused an outpouring of criticism from across Canada and around the world for the star's outlandish behavior.[14][15] The following night, Thornton's band opened for Willie Nelson at Toronto's prestigious Massey Hall. A series of boos and catcalls erupted mid-set, with people in the audience yelling "here comes the gravy!", when Thornton unsuccessfully tried to explain he liked Canadians but not the popular CBC radio host.[16] Local reviews of Thornton's Toronto performance have not been positive: "Nelson could teach Billy Bob Thornton more than a few things" - Globe and Mail.[17][18][19] On April 10, Thornton announced that the Boxmasters were dropping out of the tour early, and would not be playing with Nelson during concerts scheduled in London, Ont. and Montreal.[20]
