Is anyone else voting in this poll?

Here are the ones I voted for today:

What I find odd is that Marvel themselves seem not to have as many of their own covers on offer as the GCD does. Most of the stuff I'd really want to vote for - notably some of the Creatures On The Loose covers, along with a bunch of other stuff like Skull The Slayer #1, and sundry other forgotten classics - is completely absent. It's difficult to vote for stuff that simply isn't there. Weird.

Sorry, Simon.
I love the old covers, but these types of polls are dominated by newer readers
who tend to have no appreciation for the past.

So, yeah, by not voting, I let them rule "spoil" the results. But, I have voted in
the past for such things: greatest story, favorite artists, etc. I come away
disappointed a lot.

Now, on the other hand, I enjoy seeing what older fans post and like.

Beach and TS Garp have restored my faith in humanity ;). Thank you!

I know what you mean about being disappointed, Beach - I voted daily for my 'Top 70 Comics', knowing that it'd wind up being mostly be X-Men and the like. I voted anyhow, but it was a bit of a letdown to see so many recent covers dominating the results.

This latest Marvel poll has kind of ticked me off by making so many covers impossible to vote for. I know it's just a publicity thing, and they don't give a hang about making the list of covers comprehensive, but it does annoy me enough to mention it. :)

Hell, they don't have my favorite Spoider-Man cover available for voting,.

Worse, when looking under Amazing, they had a weird Team, Up cover with Cable and then a couple splash pages instead of covers. WTF?

WTF indeed, Hanzo. For a company that obviously have the money to spend on a project like this one, that whole site is a pretty poor effort, I reckon. There are a significant number of covers that simply aren't there!

Incidentally, what's your favourite Spidey cover?

Today's picks from me -

Here's my picks, followed by the Spider-Man cover I'd rather have voted for.

Nice choices! :)

That FF one is a winner, and I love the Spidey one, too. I almost voted for the "This issue - Everybody dies" issue of X-Men...but the FF cover with Nova changed my mind. Maybe tomorrow.

It surprises me that the one you preferred wasn't there - it's a pretty iconic Spidey cover. Almost as strange as what's missing is what's been included. There's a ton of stuff that's popped up when I've been searching by year that surprised me. Just for fun, I did a series search for Night Nurse...and there were no results!

When you can't even have a laugh at Marvel by voting for a Night Nurse cover, the world seems a little harsher, somehow. ;)

Oh, and I'm planning on voting for some covers starring the Bi-Beast...just because! :D

What a stupid site. I clicked on DD#7, and it produced three errors, and inserted a different
DD cover as my choice.

I was also annoyed that they can't even punctuate '39 correctly. They use a left single quote
instead of an apostrophe at the top of the site.

I have also noticed their grammatical sloppiness, Beach.

Okay, I just attempted to do a character search for the Bi-Beast....HE/IT IS NOT LISTED!!!!

They've listed Betty Brant, for cryin' out loud...but not the %$#@'n Bi-Beast? Beak has been listed! BEAK!

But not the Bi-Beast. Within my heart, there is darkness and misery...for they did not list the Bi-Beast. :ohno:

There shall be a reckoning....but not today. Today I looked at that crappy, crappy site, and voted for these covers.

I couldn't resist that "Hulk the barbarian" one ("my Lord, the helmet!" * ), and the "Jane Foster as Thor" (or "Thordis" as she was called in the story) cover was too cool not to pick. :)

There's a lot of crud on there, though. Every cover Liefeld ever drew for Marvel is on there, and I'm willing to bet every cover that Quesada ever drew is on there as well; but there are huge gaps in their image library. It's clear that they don't give a continental about the crapness of that site...yet still, I care enough to go there and vote.

* A nifty little reference to Walpole's The Castle of Otranto there, just in case anyone missed it. ;)

You know that's all bulshit anyway. i just looked at the results of their Top 70 comics-- fucking Secret Invasion #1 is ranked 21?!?!

WTF?

Meanwhile, the Master Planner story is #23. So, Secret Invasion #1 is better than Master Planner? Apparently it's also better than Uncanny X-Men #136 (48), UXM #142 (52), This Man, This Monster (55) and Fantastic Four #1, just to name a few.

I mean, fucking One More Day #1 is there?! The issue of X-Men were Wolverine loses his adamantium is there? These are the best comics Marvel's done in 70 years?

What the fuck?

Yeah, I tend to agree. It depends on who's voting. If you get a zillion fans of something voting, then obviously that particular something will win. I also think that most older readers simply don't vote in those polls. Maybe they don't even know - or care - that there's a Marvel site at all?

I guess I just never learn. :D

I was amazed to see anything turn up in that "Top 70" that pre-dated the "All new, all different" X-Men, to be honest. I thought for sure that the voters would mostly be people who'd grown up on those comics, and for whom nothing before that even mattered.

My favorite Marvel comic (favorite ANY comic) of all time is Daredevil #7: Wally Wood draws DD in red costume
battling the Sub-Mariner. I love this shit! DD fights a fight he has no chance of winning. NONE! And he holds
his own--for awhile--until Namor, moved by DD's selflessness, decides to end his rampage.

I ate it up as a kid, and I will continue to eat it up whenever I see or remember it for the rest of my life.

It's amazing how certain stories and images just stay with you throughout the years, isn't it? I suppose that's why I vote in these (silly) things. Comics have meant so much to me over the years, I feel like putting in my two-cents worth, even though I know it'll be drowned out by the two-cents worth of a million Wolverine fans. ;)

It doesn't matter - I didn't manage to get a Howard the Duck comic into the top seventy comics of all time (my cunning plan), but maybe I can get a cover into this top seventy. Even if I can't, I'm still voting!

Excelsior!
