I grabbed these 2 releases from Amazon early last week. They come in bare bones cardboard gatefold sleeves and are released in conjuction with Wolfgangs Vault which also owns the King Bicuit Flower Hour masters as well. While these 2 shows have been bootlegged for years, it's nice to have a Master sourced version on silver disc as opposed to a download. There are also release's for a Muddy Waters show and the hair metal band Cinderella. This is probably the same format that the Nashville KISS show talked about on this forum is going to be released.

Authorized Bootleg: Live at the Cardiff Capitol Theater - Cardiff, Wales Nov. 04 1975

Authorized Bootleg: Live at Winterland - San Francisco Mar. 07 1976

They get points for sound quality, but a demerit for packaging.

Both of these gigs have only Allen Collins and Gary Rossington on guitars, right? At this point Ed King already left the band and Steve Gaines hadn''t joined until May 1976.

I picked up Authorized Bootleg: Live at the Cardiff Capitol Theater - Cardiff, Wales Nov. 04 1975
but did not get to play as of yet.
I hope this begins a series of more releases from Wolfgang. They have many shows that need to be put out on CD.

Are these the only two shows from KBFH/Wolfgang's Vault to be released on cd, or are they part of a line?

That is correct. King left in early '75. I would love a release with King on there. He was sorely missed, even after Steve Gaines joined.

When did Ed King return? Many years later, correct?

He rejoined in 1987 for the reunion tour. I'm not sure when he left for the last time, but I beleive it was for health reasons.

The Allman Bros have been releasing their own vault shows for years. There are several shows from the early years out already and available at their web site.

I've got 'em all, but it has been nearly two years since they released one. And I'm not very good at waiting. I know that's an unusual trait for this board :). The Allmans played the Fillmore(s) a lot, and I know there are a bunch of shows in the vault. I would particularly like a show from '69. I once picked up a '69 show in Atlanta, and I would love to get some more.

I just picked these up at Best Buy for the $7.99 sale price (thanks again to bp for letting us know!

Some quick thoughts:

The packaging is the WORST I've ever seen hands down. At $7.99 ea, I can live with it. At regular price of $13.99 I'd be furious. One of the discs was scratched the first time I removed it. That's common with this crap packaging.

I'm hesitant to comment on sound quality, as my main power amp is still down. I played one disc in my car. Sounded like standard KBFH sound, a bit muddy & grainy, but listenable.

A couple folks commented on Amazon that WGV's on line version has more songs then the cd. That's not true.

Last but not at all least, I ripped one of the cd's with EAC & ran it through Trader's Little helper; as WGV stores everything as an MP3, I wanted to see if these had ever been through an MP3 generation. Results of 9 tracks:
5 were definitely NOT MP3. 2 were likely not MP3 (79% chance & 65% chance of .wav source), & it was unable to determine whether there was an MP3 generation on 2 tracks. From past experience, this means that these were mastered from an analogue tape or a .wav file.

Oh, & per EAC the disc had some of the lowest peak levels I've seen in years; there was little if any compression on the mastering.

I listened to part of the '75 show. Nowhere near as good as One More From The Road, but worth the $7.99.

There is a Muddy Waters show from the Fillmore West and a Cinderella Show from the Tokyo Dome in Japan. I haven't seen any press release on these or any future release's.I am only guessing that the much discussed KISS show on another thread is from this series as well.Anyone else?

To my knowlege, none of the Allman shows listed on Wolfgangs Vault have been released yet.I would love that New Years Eve show from the Cow Palace. Owsley Stanley (Bear) allegedly recorded quite a few early Allman Brothers shows when they played on the same bill as the Grateful Dead, but only one of them was ever released (similar to a Dicks Picks release) and it is now out of print.

BB is also carrying the Muddy Waters, but they want $13.99 for it. If it was $7.99 i would have bought it too.
