CSN ALBUM OF VINTAGE RARE DEMOS DUE IN MAY, AND THE GROUP WILL BE INDUCTED
INTO THE SONGWRITER’S HALL OF FAME ON JUNE 18 IN NYC

LOS ANGELES, March 23 /PRNewswire/ — Their first gig together was at
Woodstock in front of half a million people. Now, four decades into their
creative partnership, Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) continue their journey with
a 2009 tour of North America and Europe, beginning with a concert in St.Louis,
MO on Wednesday, June 3. The tour’s initial North American leg—which will
include dates in the U.S. and Canada—wraps at the Bank of America Pavilion in
Boston, MA on June 14 (a second North American leg, running August through
September, will be announced in the coming weeks)
.
The tour picks up internationally on June 27 in the U.K., when CSN plays
the sold-out 2009 Glastonbury Festival. Other U.K. stops include July 1, when
CSN takes the venerable stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and then performs
shows in: Cork, Ireland (6/29); Manchester, England (7/10) and Edinburgh,
Scotland (7/11). The trio’s summer European itinerary will also touch down on
the Continent for four dates, with highlights including the Museum Plaza in
Bonn, Germany (7/1) and The Olympia in Paris, France (7/4)
.
In between the late spring North American and early summer European
segments of its 2009 road trip, CSN will be inducted into the Songwriter’s
Hall of Fame on June 18 in New York City. The honor—which follows their 1997
induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—recognizes David Crosby,
Stephen Stills and Graham Nash as a threesome, and as individual solo
artists. It also acknowledges the groundbreaking music each created with landmark bands
prior to forming CSN: The Byrds (Crosby), Buffalo Springfield (Stills) and The
Hollies (Nash)—this remarkable convergence of rock ’n roll pedigrees led to
CSN becoming known as music’s first "supergroup" when they formed in Los
Angeles in 1969.

The tour’s launch also coincides with Rhino Records’ June 2 release of
CROSBY, STILLS & NASH DEMOS, a single-disc collection of early versions of
destined-to-be-classic songs later heard on the group’s studio albums and solo
titles. The set opens with a January 1969 recording of "Marrakesh Express,"
reaches as far back as ’68 with the Stephen Stills solo track "My Love Is A
Gentle Thing," and features other rarities including seminal takes on "Almost
Cut My Hair," "Chicago" and "Long Time Gone." Looking ahead, CSN is currently
in the studio, working on a new album with ten-time GRAMMY(R)-winning producer
Rick Rubin.

A cornerstone of rock ’n roll, CSN’s music first became embedded into our
pop culture consciousness with the group’s legendary, self-titled 1969 debut
LP, now one of Rolling Stone’s "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." The album
introduced signature hits including "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Marrakesh
Express," "Guinnevere" and "Wooden Ships," and earned CSN a GRAMMY(R) for Best
New Artist. 1970’s Deja Vu—another "500 Greatest"—came next, the first album
from the group’s four-man line-up with Neil Young, Crosby, Stills, Nash &
Young (CSN&Y)
.
Ever since—throughout changing times and various configurations—David
Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash have continued to tour and record music
together, delivering songs conveying emotional truths and social activism in
equal measure. Forty years on from their first live set at Max Yasgur’s farm,
they are still "three together."

Product Description
This 12 song compilation of previously unreleased demos from 1968 to 1971 offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the earliest days of one of rock's most legendary partnerships. After four decades as 'three together', the creative partnership of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash is one of the most enduring and influential in contemporary music. This compilation of previously unreleased material takes an unprecedented look at the earliest days of their collaboration with 12 demos from 1968 to 1971-destined to be classic songs that would later be featured on CSN's studio albums and solo titles. While a number of demos feature members performing solo (and one finds them joined by Neil Young), the set opens with the trio harmonizing on 'Marrakesh Express', recorded four months before their self-titled debut LP was released in 1969.

I wonder, are these demos the ones already found on the Crosby and Nash box sets, as well as the group's recent remasters? Any CSN experts here know? I am looking forward to their album with Rick Rubin. I hope it does well. Maybe Rubin could then pull in Young for a follow up.

Reny,

I hope the second US leg is longer than the first or else there will be a lot of missed places!! I haven't seen anything but the last CSNY tour since I moved to Florida in 2006 (although I did have a shot at seeing Stills solo tour, but couldn't get to it).

The demos album looks great! I wonder how much of it will be unreleased material. Doesn't matter. I'm happy to get it and happy that Warners is paying attention to them.

Very cool on the cd. I SUSPECT a lot of us already have this stuff on high quality bootlegs, but i will definitely be buying it (At least assuming I still have an income in June!).

I'm going to try to see them this time, as I have only seen Crosby solo. I'll have to save up for ticket, plane, hotel, yikes!

i wonder if something is amiss in cleveland that is not getting out to the public.

blossom used to have 20+ shows every summer and the last couple of years we are lucky to get 10.

It's really sad when big acts skip regularly skip the home of "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". That shows you how important that really is-zero.

I think Michael still works for Live Nation out of the Chagrin Falls office where Belkin was HQ'ed before they sold out. But they don't have the pull they once did.

Track listing for "Demos" from Billboard today:

Crosby, Stills and Nash dust off demos
By GARY GRAFF
Billboard.com
DETROIT — Early recordings of a dozen Crosby, Stills & Nash tracks
— including favorites such as “Marrakesh Express,” “Almost Cut my
Hair,” “Deja Vu,” “Love the One You’re With” and “Chicago” —
will be featured on “Crosby, Stills & Nash Demos,” coming out June 2
to coincide with the trio’s June 18 induction into the Songwriters
Hall of Fame and summer tour dates.
“It’s fascinating stuff,” says Graham Nash, who co-produced the
set with Joel Bernstein. “On some of these songs you really hear us
becoming a band, trying out different ideas in our songwriting and
singing and harmonies. It really is a time capsule.”<QA>
The “Demos” version of “Long Time Gone,” for instance, features
just Crosby and Stills during June 1968, a few weeks before Nash
joined the group. “Marrakesh Express,” meanwhile, was recorded four
months before CSN’s first album came out in 1969. The set also
includes: a Crosby solo demo of “Almost Cut my Hair;” a Stills solo
take of “My Love is a Gentle Thing” from 1969; Neil Young joining
Crosby and Nash on “Music is Love” for Crosby’s 1971 solo debut
album, “If I Could Only Remember my Name”; and demos of three tracks
for Nash’s 1971 solo debut, “Songs For Beginners” — “Sleep Song,”
“Be Yourself” and “Chicago.”<QA>
The full “Demos” track stack includes: “Marrakesh Express,”
“Almost Cut my Hair,” “You Don’t Have to Cry,” “Deja Vu,”
“Sleep Song,” “My Love is a Gentle Thing,” “Be Yourself,”
“Music is Love,” “Singing Call,” “Long Time Gone,” “Chicago”
and “Love the One You’re With.”<QA>
“Demos” is the latest result from a spate of vault trolling
that’s produced box sets for Crosby and Nash, a demos collection from
Stills and expanded editions of “If I Could Only Remember my Name”
and “Songs For Beginners.” Stills is currently working on his box
set, while CSN is recording an album of covers that’s being supervised
by Rick Rubin.
CSN’s summer tour schedule includes:
June 1: St. Louis, Mo. (Chaifetz Arena)
June 4: Chicago (Charter One Pavilion)
June 6: Detroit (Meadow Brook Theater)
June 7: Toledo, Ohio (Zoo Amphitheatre)
June 10: Canandaigua, N.Y. (Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands
Performing Arts Center)
June 12: Cooperstown, N.Y. (Doubleday Field)
June 13: Mashantucket, Conn. (MGM Grand Theater)
June 14: Boston (Bank of America Pavilion)
June 27: Glastonbury, England (Glastonbury Festival)
June 29: Cork, Ireland (Marquee)
July 1: London (Royal Albert Hall)
July 3: Bonn, Germany (Museum Plaza)
July 4: Paris (The Olympia)
July 6: Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Heineken Music Hall)
July 7: Brussels, Belgium (Forest National)
July 10: Manchester, England (Manchester Evening News Arena)
July 11: Edinburgh, Scotland (Edinburgh Castle)

12 demos, mostly of songs I'm sick of. I'm a fan, but I'm not going to pay much for this one. They easily could've stuck these on various remasters and not made this a full (if that's the word for it) CD.

Damn, I've only got three months to save up for Royal Albert Hall, all the good seats will have been taken by the time I've saved up enough money.

It seems odd to me that there's so much anger about this release, it's on my must buy list.

I didn't see any anger-just disappointment. I'll still get it-but I'll wait until it's reduced or used.

Yes it is disappointment. There aren't more than 12 f*cking demos from CSN's prime? It feels like half-ass product rather than a real archival release.

let's see, total demos and unreleased tunes by CSN(Y):

well, they did put quite a few (26 if i recall correctly) on the box set.

then 4 more on the HDCD reissue of the couch album

then 4 more on the "daylight again' HDCD reissue

that's 34 additional tracks...so far,

plus these 12 makes 46 "f*cking demos" altogether.

not to f*cking shabby IMHO.

renny

p.s. and don't forget the stills demo set, the demos on the crosby box and the demos on the nash box....and maybe someday...."archives"!

yeah, i guess you are right, half-ass all the way :)
