I picked up the 2007 remastered Stormbringer released on Friday Records. I have not heard this album in many years, possibly since the late 80's, so I have forgotten what a funky album this was for them. The song You Can't Do It Right (with the one you love) is almost like a Stevie Wonder tune, a real thick back beat, funky guitar line and keyboards. They sound pretty American for an English group with this album.
I'm real happy with how this sounds, it's a lot fuller then I remembered. The drums have that punch that producer Martin Birch is known for from his later work with Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden.
This isn't the actual remaster authorized by the band. That would be the 25th anniversary edition which just came out in February through EMI. I'm not sure about Friday Music-I think they're legit, but they often put out remasters that have already been remastered by other labels but without the bonus tracks and such. In any case if you want the best sounding remaster of "Stormbringer" get the new one.
Also, no offense but this has to be at least the 5th different time a seperate post has been put up about this album-does anyone use the search function? It's why Linda has it there!
