Oh man, I'm gonna need this. During my recent trip to NH, we watched a documentary about the '64-65 World's Fair, and it brought back a lot of memories. I still have the visitor's guide someplace. My grade school notebooks were covered with hand-drawn renderings of the Unisphere.

Between this and Yankee Stadium, I'm feeling very nostalgic tonight.

this should be fun. absolutely gotta get it.

amazing what memories can be awakened: i have some rather foggy visual memory of being at the 64 WF with parents and grandparents, but what really comes flashing back is...

Dino

I remember putting (a nickel? a quarter?) into an injection-molding machine and receiving my very own, freshly-made dark-green DINOSAUR (woo hoo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(IIRC it was from an exhibit associated with Sinclair (as in the oil company), I always remember thinking about the dinosaur when I would see a Sinclair gas station sign....)

So we go home to suburban Philadelphia (that's Fluffya for those not outside the region), me cradling said Dino on lap the entire way..... I am THRILLED that I will have something so NEAT to take in for Show-and-Tell in First Grade class the next day!!! Dino goes onto the living room table for the night. I dream of things Jurassic or whatever.....

Up next morning, dressed, out to get breakfast before mom drives me to school, go to LR to get Dino and

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pogo (the droopy-eared family beagle mutt) had managed to get up and drag Dino down by the tail... which he had proceeded to chew, mangle and partially detach......... and Dino's body had been a bit chomped-on also.

This was THE END OF THE WORLD........ I was crying like CRAZY......

Enter Mom in "I'm mom I'll solve it (and we gotta get going NOW) mode": with maternal ingenuity, out comes the box of Bandaids....

So at Show-and-Tell, I got to tell a story about how it looked like Dino had been in a Big Fight... ;)

Yep, that's the one. Well worth a rental for anybody who was there--or even if you weren't.

I was at this flea market in Manhattan sometime in either the late 1980s or the 1990s, and I see a 1965 World's Fair guidebook sitting on someone's table. I flip through it, and just for the heck of it - I didn't really want it anyway - I ask the price. "25," the guy says. I tell him that's a little out of my price range and put it back. The guy looks at me and says, "25 cents is too much?!"

25 cents?????

I thought he meant 25 dollars!!!!!

True story. :ohyes:
