I look at Dead Man's Chest as the Empire Strike Back of the Pirate genre.

Darker in tone......more character developement....not quite as good as the first one......and a cliffhanger ending.

Except most SW's fans seem to like Empire better, and most Pirates fans seem to not really like this one quite as good as the first one.
I liked it. It was fun. I thought, despite having a long running time, it could have explained things in the beginning a little more.
Unlike Empire, it didn't quite seem to have that much of a story or weight to it-oddly I think the first one did. It was more like take the little things or fun of the first one that people liked and give us MORE MORE MORE. SO it was a little bit like eating a gallon of chocolate.
But ut was exciting, the characters were developed a bit more, the action sequences were great. and the monster! Wow!
It really did depend on your knowledge of the first one a lot-i know quite a few people who didn't remember the Commodore. and even at the end, I had to explain to a few people who popped up "Don't you rememeber the bad guy in the first movie?" My dad was one. I was like "He was the bad guy in the first movie., The apples, remember?" He was like, Yeah I remember a lot of Pirates, swordfights, skeletons, the love story, and Capt. Jack. He hadn't seen it since it came out. I guess when you see a movie once out of 10,000 you've seen in a lifetime, and never read anything about it, you forget the details-like the main bad guy!
I will watch it on DVD with my wife's grandparents and have to explain it all againk even though I just showed them the first Pirates movie.
They are in their 80s and when I showed them the second Antonio Banderas Zorro movie, even though I showed them the first like a month before, they forgot all about it.

I saw Pirates twice. I thought it was great. If you havent seen it then you should see it. If you have little kids though I recomend a babysitter.

Really?
Why?
My brother (8, 7 at the time) took it just fine, no problem.

I guess my brother is too, he just wasn't bothered in the lease by Pirates.
Me, I don't remember, yeah, I know, it was only a few years ago, but I really don't remember.

My 7 year old daughter is so desensitized to violence that she fell asleep during the movie.
When I woke her up, she punched me in the crotch and lit my hair on fire for ruining the good dream she was having.

Yeah, but she's a really nice kind underneath it all. I bring it on myself, I know I do. If I didn't cause so many "accidents", she wouldn't have to get so upset with me.

When she gets real mad at someone, do they go to the cornfield?

Which reminds me...
Congrats to Cloris Leachman for her Emmy win last weekend. SHe has now surpassed that goody-two-shoes, Mary Tyler Moore for most Emmy's won!
