I got an email from CD Japan that the seven 2007 Humble Pie remasters are being released again in SHM cardboard sleeves and are available for preorder. I have given up hope for any domestic remasters of these classics ,so I have jumped on these since I missed out on the original release's that are now out of print.

Humble Pie-Humble Pie [Cardboard Sleeve] [SHM-CD] [Limited Release] (CDA)Price: Yen- 2667, US$(27.91) Release Date: 22-Apr-2009Cardbord sleeve reissue from Humble Pie featuring the high-fidelity SHM-CD format (compatible with standard CD players). Part of a seven-album Humble Pie cardboard sleeve reissue series featuring the albums "Humble Pie," "Rock On," "Performance," "Smokin'," "Eat It," "Thunderbox," and "Street Rats." Featuring 24 bit (2007) remastering.

Please let us know how you think it sounds. I know the previous remaster of that was supposed to be great. I might pick this one up, or continue to hold out for the "deluxe edition" (which I guess is never coming out??).

Wow, contact Roxanne. She was able to get me the SHM remasters of "Performance" and "Smokin". These reissues blew me away. Good Luck HWK!

Wow, can't believe they went out of print so fast.

I hope whoever it was that was that had that thread talking about how a DELUXE EDITION of Rockin' The Filmore was not looking marketable/profitable reads this. YES there is demand for a DELUXE EDITION of this album!! Look how fast the resissues sold out!!!!!

Also speaking of the SHM reissues - I was able to get both RTF and ROCK ON via Roxanne. I tried some A/B comparison of the new SHMs with my older CD versions (ROCK ON was a Mobile Fidelty and RTF was a regular CD) and my ears cannot notice a significant difference between the old ones and the new ones. I even took both CDs over to a friend's house and tried some blind taste testing & neither of us could notice anything significant either. One edition vs. another might have been louder but I can't say one sounded better than another.

I guess I do not have "golden ears".

While the SHM-CD versions of the Humble Pie CD's are very good, the 24-bit remasters that were done a year or two ago are far better, from a Hi-Fi quality standpoint. Rock On is especially excellent BTW. I found the same thing with the past 24-bit reissues of the Peter Framton catalog. If I'm not mistaken, all the older remasters are still available from CDJapan, which is where I purchase most of my CD's.

The SHM-CD versions are from the same 24-bit remasters only on a supposedly better polycarbonate disc.I personally think that this SHM and BLU-SPEC stuff is all snake oil to begin with, but if that is the only way to get a quality remaster of a particular title then I spring for it.Japanese made discs are of superior quality regardless of polycarbonate type and their mini sleeves are unsurpassed as well.If you have quality audio components to play your discs on, then I don't believe that all this disc type nonsense makes an audible difference unless you are a golden- eared Hoffmanite.

I agree 100%!! While I'm sure that the SHM process makes for a better, perhaps more easily read (by the laser) CD, in most, buit not all cases, does not appear to improve the sound quality of the respective discs. However, I also have to say that I have found a few more BLU-SPEC CD's benefiting sonically from that process, than from the SHM process. Perhaps that has to do with the masters being used for soem of those CD's, but I'm not sure. Also, while I certainly agree that in most cases the CD's from Japan are superior, I've laways wondered if it's the material used to make the CD or the mastering/remastering process they use, or both.

The Japanese take pride in everything they manufacture. They favor a long term customer loyalty and satisfaction over the bottom line.It is a sad reality that the bottom line takes precedence over quality in most domestic produced goods.Just look at GM and Chrysler as an example of the state of American manufacturing. It is not the workers that assemble the garbage that these companies have been selling since the mid 1970's that are to blame. It is the greedy corporate whores who go with a plastic press-in fastener rather than a threaded steel bolt to save 2 cents and fatten the bottom line. The assembly line workers can't make chicken soup with chicken poop.I was a diehard American made auto owner and buyer for most of my adult life, but I just couldn't take the quality issues anymore.I have a bottom line too.I will pay the premium for quality and long term satisfaction. It is money well spent and probably cheaper in the long run.

That's a very valid observation and an even better analogy of the situation. I agree about the bean counters only looking at the bottom line. Some companies look to sell a product today without giving consideration to that customer being satisfied enough to come back again for a future purchase. However, with all due respect, besides blaming the car makers (I own a Ford product, which I love!), I firmly feel that the UAW "leadership" is almost equally to blame for the sitaution. I know that this is really not the forum for this type of discussion, but the comparison you brought up is truly similar.
