Demo Kit Details
August seems like a long way away, but it’s just a short time when you’re trying to bring something as complex and wonderful as HorrorClix to bloodthirsty hobby gamers everywhere!

In fact, the very first HorrorClix demo kits will be previewed at Gen Con Paris. This will be the very first opportunity for players worldwide to get their claws on the most exciting new miniatures game in several years. Don’t have the pocket change to make it to Europe? Fear not, we’ll break down these demo kits and all of the coolness found therein.

The HorrorClix Demo Kit (or “Cthulhu Snack Pack” as we call it internally; more on that later) contains the following monster-goodness:

6 awesome monster sculpts with monster cards
6 victim tokens
12 plot twist cards
Full-sized, full-color map of the Blight Family Mausoleum
Full-color rules poster
Demo script
2 full-sized dice
Clix ring
We’ve shown you the monster sculpts before, but let’s talk about the new game play additions you’ll find in HorrorClix.

Monster Cards — HorrorClix monster cards show you which powers the specific dial colors represent, as well as keywords and important symbols—they even provide story backgrounds on most of the game’s characters.

Victim Tokens — These are the innocent (and some not-so) human victims that you chase down at the beginning of the game. Slaying (or in some cases rescuing) victims can give your monsters additional powers and bonuses.

Plot Twist Cards — Another new element of HorrorClix is the plot twist card. These are played from your crypt to prevent your opponent from making tasty snacks out of victims, or to move victims closer to your monsters.

Wizard World Philly is in full swing, and HorrorClix is the talk of the show! The centerpiece of the “wicked fun” is this beautiful table created by Gale Force 9. The Slasher Summer Camp is the perfect backdrop for the gore-filled romp that is HorrorClix!
You’ll be able to get your chance to “go to camp” at this summer’s Wizard World shows, as well as at Origins in Columbus, Ohio, June 29–July 2 and at Gen Con Indy August 10–13. And starting at Origins, you’ll also be able to check out the Temple of the Great Cthulhu table, on which you can take a shot at the big guy himself!

As the exclusive scenery provider for WizKids, Gale Force 9 has produced a full line of tables for HeroClix, MechWarrior, and Pirates of the Spanish Main. You can visit them at http://www.gf9.com

See the awesome table HERE: http://www.wizkidsgames.com/horrorclix/gf9_table.asp

Prom Queen and Cheerleader should be interchangeable figures.

General Changes

1. Pushing characters do not take damage; they become "vulnerable".

2. Monsters may not destroy walls or blocking terrain; attack roll of 13 (instead of 3 damage) needed to destroy objects.

3. There is no knockback.

4. Victory Points: Score only monsters (and victims) slain; no points for surviving monsters (no points for monsters killed during the hourglass phase either).

5. Terrain: There is no elevated terrain; water is a distinct terrain type.

Flight Changes:
(appear to be irrelevant for the initial release)

1. Fliers may not make RC attacks (at all) when based by opposing figures

2. No LoF between Soaring & Indoors

3. Soaring monsters may make ranged attacks against grounded monsters

4. No range reduction from grounded to soaring

5. +2 AV from grounded to soaring

6. Successful grounded to soaring hit: if the soaring monster takes at least 1 damage from the attack, the attack also deals 1 additional unpreventable damage. Move the flight indicator of such a target to hovering mode.

Aliens Attack!

Usually at this time of year we all look forward to finding little packages on our doorstep. But you may want to open your next brown box with care, as the HorrorClix AVP: Aliens Collector’s Set is chock full of chest-bursting fun! This first Collector’s Set for HorrorClix provides some great figures, some unique plot twists, and an interactive, changing map that will take the game in new directions.

The first thing you’ll notice is the ingenious way that the monsters are represented. Previously in HorrorClix, most characters had to slay victims in order to become blooded or transform. But not our lovely, spittle-dripping Aliens. Each of the seven figures has the ability to flip its card at the beginning of its owner’s turn. This may not seem like a big deal until you look at the elegance of the power selection on each card side.

Every Alien starts out with Leap/Climb, Camouflage, and Blooded on the “Start” side of its card. This allows the player to quickly mobilize his or her force of chitinous death while getting a bonus to defense in case the opponent decides to attack from range. Blooded allows you to bypass victims in order to concentrate on opposing monsters (thus avoiding the Hairspray Blowtorch that Prom Queens are known to carry around!).

Once your monsters are in position, flip their cards for close-combat effectiveness. Leap/Climb becomes Hissssss (Trap), which will make it more difficult for your opponent to break away after you frenzy in for the initial hit. Should your opponents retaliate, Acid Blood is going to make them take damage if they hit. Though Stamina and Invulnerability will absorb this damage, it’s a great way to deal with figures without such protection or that have pesky damage-avoiding powers Dodge or Martial Artist.

Although there are some fundamental similarities between the Aliens, these monsters are not of the cookie-cutter variety. There are slight variations in their remaining powers that will allow you to customize your force to your play style and allow for many different combinations within your team. Their point values are also set such that there are easy ways to build forces as small as 100 points and as large as 500 points.

Two of the Aliens come with ranged combat capabilities. The Long-Tail Alien will be able to wreak havoc from range with the first odd-numbered range value in Clix history. Coupled with three front-loaded clicks of Piercing Tail (Impale), it can sit back and use its 3 range to deal penetrating damage to opposing figures. Its ranged combat partner, the Acid-Tail Alien, will assist by using its starting natural 3 damage. Should your opponent get in a hit, Acid Spray (Accuracy) will increase its damage value by 1 on ranged attacks—illustrating why it’s a bad idea to try to chop off an Alien’s appendages.

The remaining five figures are keyed for close combat. The Leaping Alien gains Pounce in the middle of its dial so that it can still be an effective attacker after taking damage. The Running Alien is going to be more selective about who it pursues. Keeping it on the outskirts of the fray is a good idea, because its Agony power is going to be most effectively used by waiting patiently for your opponent to give actions to his or her figures. Nothing’s more pleasing that running this monster in on a vulnerable monster to deal big damage. (For even more fun, make sure you sing, “Go Alien, it’s your birthday, got some Agony, gonna Frenzy!” while you do it.)

The next two figures not only look fantastic perched menacingly on the walls of the temple, but they also have great powers to befuddle your opponent’s plan. The Stalking Alien sports Pain off and on throughout the first half of its dial, so your opponent has to be very careful about attacking it. Nothing can ruin a monster’s day more than a 4-damage attack that ignores all damage reducers. The same holds true with the Wall-Leaping Alien. Hitting this Alien into its five clicks of mid-dial Jaws and Claws (Slash) is a risky move, as many monsters will not survive a retaliatory attack that could possibly deal 6 damage!

The last figure to be mentioned, and the only Unique in the set, is the Grid Alien. Fans of the Alien vs. Predator movie will remember this tough guy as the one scarred by the Predator’s net. At 110 points it’s the most expensive figure in the set, but after looking through its dial you’ll know you’re getting a great figure. Every one of its nine clicks is highly playable. The Spree power does not show up until the third click, but it’s there until the end, so you’ll want to track down some Scientists while you are moving in on the opponent to make certain its damage potential stays high. The second half of its dial has Boss, which increases the attack values of its teammates by 1 when they are adjacent to it.

But the fun of the set does not stop there. Included with the figures are four plot twist cards that are designed to enable your crypt to run an Alien force. Perhaps my favorite out of the four is Run Like Hell. This plot twist provides the ability to move the chosen victim up to 6 spaces on a good die roll. Watching your opponent’s perfectly laid out plans fold as the Nerd bolts for safety at twice his normal movement can be devastatingly fun.

The final addition to this set is the map. Though players always love getting a new map, this one goes above and beyond by having sections that randomly switch from blocking terrain to clear terrain at the beginning of each figure’s turn. The constantly shifting battle area is a great representation of the maze contained within the pyramid temple featured in the film. It makes each game a different experience, so you will never feel like the map gets dull or game play becomes predictable. Order your own set today so that you can see first-hand all the exciting sci-fi game play this product has to offer!
