Umpteenth solo album from the folk heroine, founder member of pioneering English folk-rockers Steeleye Span and one of the most enduring figures in British traditional music. Following releases with her group The Girls and a reformed Steeleye, on this album she is joined by folk staples Benji Kirkpatrick and Giles Lewin to record a selection of traditional English songs in an acoustic style. The title comes from a version of the famous old "magpie rhyme".

1. Dives and Lazarus 4:15
2. Trooper's Nag 2:22
3. Jock Of Hazeldean 4:32
4. The Collier Lad 2:04
5. Martinmass Time 4:10
6. Love Will Find Out The Way 3:27
7. In Sad And Ashy Weeds 3:11
8. Bold General Wolfe 3:25
9. The Cuckoo 4:43
10. I Heard The Banns 3:11
11. Come Ye From Newcastle 2:34

Amazon US has this priced at $31.99. The MP3 is available for $6.99!
I love Maddy, but that's a huge difference.I'm going to download and check for better prices for the CD. I have found that the Amazon downloads are pretty good, and so far I've got no complaints.

Maddy does the folk songs of England as well as anybody, and it's always great to get new product from her.

Just picked this up. Nice music, but the quality of her voice has really dropped off in the last 10 years (she sounded okay when I saw her live in the late '90's, and so do the CD's that came out then). May have to take this album back to the record store, get something else.

That's a bummer to hear. :(

It's true, though, her stuff from the mid-90s sounds great.

I looked for this album on iTunes and couldn't find it.

Listened again last night. When she's singing in a high register, she sounds as good as ever. When she is singing in a lower register, which is most of the time, that rich oboe-like quality is gone, and she sounds older and congested. Since I have so much of her stuff already, the album seems superfluous.

It appears the album is no longer available to download. It seems strange, that.
As for the music, I agree Maddy's voice has changed. At times, she sings in a near guttural way ,although even that has its uses.(check out "Bonny Black Hare" from Steeleye's Bloody Men.) On the whole, I still find it an enjoyable album to listen to.
