You forgot "The New Show."

I wonder how many people know or remember what The New Show was.

Although not a sketch comedy show, when I used to watch The Daily Show, I thought that this was the type of edgy humor that SNL should be doing. And while not an ensemble sketch show, I thought Chappelle's Show had some of the best sketch comedy I'd seen in years.

I remember Fridays as being a weak ripoff of SNL in the comedy dept, but I'll give props to any show that showed KISS when they were at their lowest in terms of record sales (The Elder).

I did enjoy Not Necessarily The News when I had HBO back in the '80s. Pretty funny stuff as I recall.

Never watched SCTV and after renting one of the DVDs a while back, I didn't feel compelled to continue.

Don't mind me, I'm just going blind.

Anyway, I remember when the show came out and Steve Martin was one of the first to parody Michael Jackson...

The New Show was one of our most anticipated new series. Up there with the Seinfeld Chronicles for the wife and I.

I debated whether to include the Daily Show and Chapelle. Not Necessarily the News had skits, so that made it less of a straight news parody. Chapelle follows the SNL format, but it's more of a star vehicle like the Jackie Gleason or Carol Burnett shows.

That is so unfair to SCTV. They were aeons beyond anything SNL ever did.

Which is why I voted for them. SNL was stuck with the live gimmick. SCTV had a better flow to each episode.

I only watched the first couple of DVDs, but I didn't see what the big deal was, really. Maybe if I'd watched it back in the day. Didn't grab me. I guess it's apples and oranges -- no right or wrong because it's all subjective, right?

I know, I'm banned anyway...

But to be fair, in watching season one of SNL, I did notice that some of the sketches didn't hold up as well as I remember and that the show was uneven. But it was a first season and most shows don't hit their stride until the second year.

Did you ever see the one where they spoofed SNL itself? That was totally dead-on. Always wondered if it was meant maliciously. I took it that way (and enjoyed it thoroughly).

You are a bastard! Making me decide between SCTV and Kids in the Hall!

I pick Four on the Floor just to be ornery!

I picked KITH really because well it seems to hold up better, but SCTV has the fondness of youth factor.

My favorite is SCTV is the Late Horror Movie promo for the movie "Man in the Box." I wish those were available on Youtube.

No love for Mr. Show?

That is my favorite sketch comedy show.

The Thursday Night Live episode was on Youtube, now it's gone.

Is that one on any of the DVDs they've released? If so, I wouldn't mind renting it to see that one. Sounds like fun.

It's interesting about SCTV because there were rumors in the early-to-mid-'80s that SNL was going to be cancelled and SCTV would replace it on Saturday nights. Even though producer Dick Ebersol had revived the show somewhat, the ratings were sketchy (no pun intended) and the show was on thin ice.

Apparently, too, SNL tried to lure John Candy away to bolster the show -- and perhaps stave off cancellation by having one of SCTV's heaviest hitters (again, no pun intended).

And Miss Linda, thank you for the banning! You like me! You really like me!

Johnny LaRue's Sensory Deprivation Chamber.

(which featured hot women, champagne, and a TV playing Three Stooges shorts)

From that list, I'd pick NOT NECESSARILY THE NEWS.

My real vote goes to THE STATE, though.
