I just sold a small lot of Legends of the Dark Knight comics on eBay.

Boy, that was a good series. I really liked the approach. Three-part stories, each with a different creative team, no real worries about continuity, and usually set back some years. Some top notch talent worked on those books, and the results were almost always intersting.

Hell, if I didn't talk myself out of it I would have kept the run, filled in the (many) holds, and had it bound.

These were quality Batman comics.

Consistently the best Bat-book for most of its lifespan, yes. Some definite dips and lurches in quality along the way, and it sagged after around #100 and never really recovered (some very good stories after that, but the consistency was gone), but back in the day, it was a damn fine read.

I liked it better when the multi-part stories were self-contained in the mag. When they began crossing over with the other Bat mags, not so much. I liked that it was outside continuity.

I didn't know they started doing crossovers. Yeah, I would not have liked that. I liked that it was self-contained, too. I was reading it right around the time of all those insane Knightfall crossovers. Couldn't make heads or tails of the main Batman, but this one was just right.

The crossovers started in the aftermath of Knightfall, I think - there was a short tie-in story to KnightQuest, or KnightsEnd, or somesuch bollocks. It didn't become a regular thing until much later, though.

Yeah, I think it started with issue #27. They crossed over with a storyline appearing in the main two mags. And they used some designs by Anton Furst, who was the production designer on Tim Burton's first Batman film.

Oh god, I'd forgotten about that one. It wasn't very good at all, although the new city designs were pretty good for the six months or so that writers/artists paid them any attention.

Loved this series early on. The Bryan Talbot, Tim Sale and Matt Wagner arcs were tops. I should dig these out for a re-read.

The Tim Sale was one of the arcs I sold. :(

Thing is, I knew if I kept them around I'd get the urge to fill in the holes. Better to sell it and kill the urge.

I enjoyed this for awhile for the reasons stated above. Fine stuff,
and my main source of Batman for awhile.

I had the whole run, then last January dumped off all the ones I was sure I would never read again* (about 1/3 of the series or slightly more). The rest are coming up soon in my pull out to reread schedule, after I finish Alias.

*I don't care about holes in the run, just the stories that are good.

The Gil Kane artwork on Flyer was pretty good.

I gave a bunch of these to my niece a couple of years ago. Very cool series. Loved the James Robinson stories.

Exactly my thoughts.
