Remember when she'd change costumes from story to story? I wonder how many different costumes she had? And then they stuck her in that really ugly one for years, up til the end.

Roger Stern, David Michelinie, Georges Perez, John Buscema & John Byrne are the ones who make me like the character.
Stan Lee's version? not so much.

Well, it was okay, but just for a few issues.

She's supposed to be an heiress and involved in the fashion world. She should have had ten more costumes by the end. I guess Bendis never read those issues.

Remember when she designed outfits for the She-Hulk and then they had to fight the Masters of Evil? She yelled at Jen not to damage what she was wearing and Shulkie had to fight in her bra and panties.

Remember when Jan held a member-drive tea party at her house for all the female heroes?

That's it! Fun issue.

And of course, when it came to it, the Wasp could kick some serious butt. She was great during the Zemo Maters of Evil storyline. She and Ant-Man took down Absorbing Man and Titania.

Remember that?

And then Bendis kills both of them off in the lamest possible ways...he really just doesn't get it...

Hmmm. A heroine in Dan's Slott book gets killed,
while She-Hulk's own book is getting cancelled.

Jen, dust off your resumé!

Spoiler: show
I believe the Ant-Man that Bendis! killed off was Scott Lang.
Hank Pym is very much alive. When did Jan die during
Secret Invasion? Or has she been dead for a long time and
we've only discovered just NOW that she was a Skrull?)

A new sensation in the Misogynist Marvel Manner!

Dan Slott wrote:
One of the messed up things about Hank is that he's going to be spending a lot of time with Jocasta. Most people forget that Jocasta's robot brain is based on Janet Van Dyne's brain patterns. And... let me creep you out... could this lead to a new relationship? Think about it. Jocasta's a cyber-reflection of Jan, a version of Hank's dead ex-wife, a version he could never hurt physically or emotionally. There's something very disturbing about that.

This is great. Now Hank can slap his girlfriend around and treat her like garbage without fear of damaging her.

How come every robot in the Marvel Universe has the brain patterns of a dead human character? Are all of their scientists complete failures when it comes to artificial intelligence? The FF's receptionist is going to be revealed as having Gwen Stacy's memory engrams.

Quote:
In a new eight-page story by Dan Slott and Khoi Pham that accompanied reprints of two classic Marvel stories – Tales To Astonish #44 and Avengers #213 – Secret Invasion: Requiem shows that not only did Hank Pym adopt the name Wasp, but he also attempted to replicate her powers for himself. In a story that had him interacting with Jocasta, Hank made the change as he reviewed his relationship with Janet, deciding to do something that is rare in comic books – becoming a male character who takes on the legacy of a deceased female character.

I guess this is supposed to be some kind of PC victory. One problem -- victory was achieved by killing off the female character in order to set up this grand moment. It's all very interesting as a storyline but they have nothing here to be patting themselves on the back for.

Taking on the legacy of Janet makes no sense anyway, since Hank is taking on things that he himself invented. He's not honouring her, he's just being an egomaniac again.

Slott wrote:
But it's always, on some level, been for the sake of ego. "I'm Giant Man, I'm Goliath, I am Yellow Jacket." For the first time, he has a legacy to live up to.

A legacy he created himself. Hank is honouring Hank. The Wasp was his own concept to begin with. A concept, one must assume from the way this is being written, that he's not going to allow to die just because the "assistant" he gave it to has died. If Hank actually wanted to honour Janet then he'd soup up Ant-Man and try to make that concept a frontline superhero.

The idea of having a male character take over for Jan might have worked, but having Hank do it makes him look even more like he needs to be in a padded cell somewhere. And I used to think Slott was one of the good writers.

Which Avengers book will he be writing? I'm sure it'll be good, it's just that they've turned him into Marvel's "Dr Lemonade" like Didio did to Geoff Johns, where the good stories are half about finding ways to make lame editorial fiats work in a plausible/elegant way. It was the same with Slott's Spider-Man stories. God, just let the talented people do things themselves already ... this Dead Jan/Robot Jan/Hank Wasp stuff has Quesada's stink all over it.

Slott's taking over the Mighty Avengers book.
I actually think that Slott can take an idea like Hank and Jocasta and make it work, though.

Well, if anyone at Marvel right now can, I think Dan has a shot.
It's really NOT a bad idea.
Jocasta based on Jan's brain patterns is a very old idea.
Ultron's based on Hank's is slightly newer, but a logical extension.

Hank confessing to Jocasta could be done well, or it could be done cheaply.
I don't see much middle ground.

Nor do I think this is what we needed to try to redeem Hank.
Many writers have redeemed Hank many times over the years after the ill-conceived Jan
slapping. (I guess Shooter was thinking of uses this as a springboard to turn hank into a
major villain.) Only Marvel refuses to let the slap go, and keeps bringing it back again.
