Ian Brown to release new album in August

Dec 22, 2008

Ian Brown has said he will release a new album in August 2009.

In a Christmas message posted on his website, Brown called his new songs the "best on all levels" he's been involved with.

The full message is as follows:

"I wish you all a happy Christmas and a happy 2009, because it's all about the happiness.

"I'm happy to let you know I'm working up a set of songs that are the best on all levels I've been involved with - ooh baby the music gets better with you! I'm looking to release these songs as an album in August. More news soon.

"Thanks for your support this year, it means a lot. I love you back."

Brown has also been confirmed to play Tokyo's National Opera House on February 5. He will be joined by an orchestra for the show.

Very good news. The only thing that would be better is if Ian, John Squire and the boys reform Stone Roses.

Ian Brown announces new Michael Jackson-inspired album details

Jul 21, 2009

Ian Brown is set to release a new Michael Jackson-inspired album in September.

The former Stone Roses singer will release 'My Way', his sixth LP as a solo artist, on September 28, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.

The frontman explained that the album was mainly inspired by Jackson's seminal 1982 album 'Thriller' – and that the final day of mixing took place when the late singer died, on June 25.

"'Thriller' was our blueprint," Brown told NME.COM. "Every time we wrote a song we didn't think was strong enough, we scrapped it. We mastered it on the day that Michael Jackson died too, so I'm taking that as a good omen."

'My Way' was recorded at Manchester's Battery Studios with producer Dave McCracken, and will include lead single 'Stellify', which is out September 21.

Ian Brown streams new album track online

Jul 27, 2009

Ian Brown has put a stream of new track 'Just Like You' online.

To listen to the track, taken from Brown's new album 'My Way', head to http://www.ianbrown.co.uk now.

A scan of a handwritten letter from Brown also appears on the site, declaring that fans should "beg, steal, borrow or buy" the album.

"Everybody, please be aware my best album yet is to be released on September 28. Titled 'My Way', it contains something for everyone," the note says.

In other Brown news, the singer has enlisted the help of the 40-strong Northern Star marching band to film the video for his new single, 'Stellify'.

Shooting in Manchester yesterday (July 26), the video sees Brown and the marching band taking a tour of some of his old haunts, including the Aytoun tramlines in the city centre and the 'wastelands' by Prince's Bridge on the edge of Salford.

The single is released on September 21.
