That convention always cracked me up. My grandma did the "local news" column for the town of Waubun, MN in the county seat's paper, The Mahnomen Pioneer, for many, many years. My folks still get gift subscriptions to the Pioneer, and only in the last 10 years or so have they started referring to married women by their own names in such social columns.

I remember my parents checks being Mr. and Mrs. for years.

That's a great story. It must be fun to find that article and look back all the way to when you were a newborn.
