Just received the new Trower live cd. Packaging and sound are top notch. Sadly, there are gaps at every index mark which makes for a frustrating listen. I thought I would contact Derek Sutton, Robin's manager for an explanation.

This is the rather inadequate response:

"We had a choice -- either the whole show is one track, with
no way to play individual songs, or we do what most people
have indicated ( in the past) that they want -- separate the songs.

It is not a mistake -- just a choice that I know has irritated some
of our audience. I regret that this has caused some folks grief.

There is no way to change that choice now."

Having bought many live shows from various labels over the years, I have never heard of any other company who would intentionally make cds with gaps. I think folks should be warned on the Trower website about this, so nobody gets a nasty surprise.

Trower's manager is obviously ignorant of technology. What a lame excuse.

Does anyone have the tracklist on this? It's not on his website.

Stupid gaps between tracks notwithstanding :sigh: (and the fact the videos that are supposed to be on Disc 2 won't play on my computer--maybe because I've got an older Mac?) the performances are great. "Bridge Of Sighs" is a 15-minute version slow-burn stunner.

Anyway, here's the track list (I got mine yesterday):

Disc 1

Twice Removed From Yesterday 3:45
Shame The Devil 3:48
For Earth Below 9:03
No Time 4:25
The Fool And Me 4:25
Roads To Freedom 4:31
Islands 4:14
Day Of The Eagle 4:02
Bridge Of Sighs 15:33
Rise Up Like The Sun 3:05
Victims Of The Fury 4:05
Gonna Be More Suspicious 3:30
Hannah 5:27
Little Bit Of Sympathy 4:49

Disc 2
Too Rolling Stoned 2:58
Go My Way 4:24
Another Place Another Time 5:03

"Too Rolling Stoned 2:58", Seems a little too short in length to me.

It's just been released commercially in the UK on the Freeworld label, distributed by http://www.floatingworld.co.uk. Incredibly, and contrary to earlier hopes and beliefs, the retail version also has the two-second gaps. In most cases, it just means the loud applause stops and then re-starts, but a number of songs are blended where Robin holds out a note from the previous song and then goes right into the next track, and the disruption to there is extremely irritating.

Ahhhh, how I miss CD Watchdog...the one element of ICE that sadly hasn't been carried on here or anywhere else, where Pete would go to someone official to ask about a problem and who knew their response would be publicly displayed and discussed, and which (I feel) in most cases led those labels to make things right. Now, when something like this happens, fans gripe on forums and then the problem usually fades away. I'm hoping the new retail release of this might cause enough people to complain, but you'd think this would have been the chance to fix it...

Thanks for the heads up on the gaps. I was meaning to pick this up but hadn't gotten around to it yet. But I refuse to pay for something mastered wrong like this. Gaps on live shows drive me crazy. I don't mind it so much on freely traded bootlegs where someone copies it wrong in Track-At-Once instead of Disc-At-Once mode (thereby adding the 2 second gaps by default), or even the tiny gaps that are a fraction of second long because of mastering done breaking up the tracks not paying attention to proper CD sector sizes for burning, either of which I can fix for myself if I want to take the time, but 2 second gaps on an official live album that I would be PAYING FOR and the response is "either the whole show is one track, with no way to play individual songs, or we do what most people have indicated ( in the past) that they want -- separate the songs"???? No thanks. Get a clue, do it right, and I'll buy it. Leave it like this and I have zero interest.
