Rented that episode from Netflix over the Summer and we watched it at the beach house. damn funny!

In honor of the holiday, I pulled out my Season 1 DVDs for the first time. I knew that the generic music was there, but I didn't figure it would bother me. WRONG! The generic replacement music is just that...generic. It's awful! From now on, I go back to viewing only the bootleg DVDs that I got some time ago, which contain the episodes with all of the original music. What were they thinking?

BTW...Damn that episode is still funny to this day!

My annual Thanksgiving movie is the classic, original "Deep Throat", starring Linda Lovelace and Harry Reems.

Luckily it's only about an hour long.

The WKRP turkey drop episode was based on a real event. It's written about in "The Rise & Fall of FM Radio" by Richard Neer.

I lost my copy of the book so I can't give specific detail (the event doesn't turn up on Google), but a San Francisco FM station (KSAN?) decided for a peace demonstration to get some doves stoned/exposed to pot smoke, then set them free to fly from the roof of the station building......they all dropped and splattered on the street below.

Absolute classic. "WKRP" is something I'll have to look for the boots for, I think - I can't imagine that show w/o the original music.

I'd love to know how they'd handle the "Tiny Dancer" episode w/generic music.

I just found my book....was slightly wrong above.

It was a KSAN/Warner Bros.stunt/promotion for the Randy Newman song Political Science.It involved exotic dancer Carol Doda and hundreds of doves being released off the station building rooftop to fill the sky. TV stations/camera crews were notified ahead of time for the stunt. The disc jockeys were blowing/exhaling pot smoke into the bird cages while carrying them to the roof. When time to release the doves, they were so stoned they wouldn't move from their cages/perches. The DJs and other staff started throwing them off the roof....they couldn't fly and splattered on the sidewalk or street where they were run over by oncoming traffic. The ASPCA was angered.

That was the basis for the WKRP Turkey Drop.

That Seinfeld episode where Elaine's boss wants to help carry one of the balloons in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was pretty funny too, but WKRP's turkey drop will always be number one.

I made the kids watch it last night. I'm not sure that they full appreciated it, but I loved it as always! (I'm still pissed off about the generic music though.)

Generic music is annoying.
