1. Peanut butter. I just discovered I have three full jars of it in the pantry. I have this weird mental block where I always think I'm out when I'm at the store and then I buy more and they just sit there and keep the current jar company.

2. Silly specialized kitchen gadgets like a quesadilla maker or an ice cream maker or a fondue pot or whatever. My kitchen is about the size of the trunk of a Geo Metro and I never use those stupid things anyway.

I don't need to hear "Jingle Bells" ever again. Used to walk past a department store in Tokyo where they blasted that song out in the street every day in December until the 25th.

Things I don't want or need for Christmas (or any other gift giving holiday): Any stupid little thing that has a superhero on it that they saw and thought "Oh he would LOVE that since he likes Superpeople!" I have enough Spider-Man foam block puzzles, and Superman Bubble Bath/shampoo bottles, and Wonder Woman sticker sets, and etc etc etc. Just because I like comics and such, does not mean I want every dorky thing that has a super hero on it! Especially when I am asked by those very same people every damn year "What do you want for Christmas?" and I TELL THEM EXACTLY WHAT TO GET ME!
Same goes for anything bought off of the Home Shopping Network. "Authentic" Eskimo Wilderness Buck Knives with wolves and eagles and rinestones on them that were made in taiwan. Bent nail puzzles. One size fits all house slippers. etc etc.
Please, if they ask me what I want, then refuse to get it, then don't give me anything. The money spent on absolute crap is far greater than what they would have paid for an Amazon gift card. (or whatever else I may have asked for)
Though, a jar of peanut butter would be nice!

I have the opposite problem- I have such strong and obvious hobbies, yet no one gets me anything that has to do with them. At least in my family. Music, art, science, comics, legos, photography...
One year I had to make an annoucement at Thanksgiving that music gift certificates would be appreciated, only to receive not a single one!
The worst thing anyone can buy me is clothing. I have a particular taste/style. Last tiem I got anything, my step-sister but me an extra-large sweater. I usually wear medium!

The problem is, most people who aren't into those same hobbies are likely to get the wrong thing if they try. I always had to be very specific in my instructions to my mother so that she would get the right item. Gift certificates are certainly good, if such a thing in available for your particular hobby.

I still want to organize a Christmas CD skeet shoot for mall employees. I fucking hate Christmas music. Same damn 20 songs played endlessly... and even worse, the new songs some insipid pop act inflicted upon the world. I still say my favorite Christmas song of all time is the Marilyn Manson cover of "This Is Halloween"... it's from a Christmas movie, so I say it counts.

Yeah, my family pretty much stopped trying to get me stuff related to my hobbies when they realized they didn't know what I already had or would want. If I give specific instructions, they're pretty good, but it takes the fun out of it. We're reaching the tail end of the gift thing anyway.
