Musictap is reporting about a Hendrix DVD coming from Experience Hendrix/Geffen called At Last...The Beginning: The Making of Electric Ladyland for December 9th. There will also be a companion release of Electric Ladyland on CD.
The million dollar questions for me are thus: a) Is the DVD a completely new DVD on the Electric Ladyland album or is it a repackaging of the old DVD that Eagle put out? b) Is the simultaneous release of another CD copy of Electric Ladyland going to be a new remaster or the same one we last bought from EH when they put out the first 3 albums? c) Will the CD contain extras (ie-like a Deluxe Edition) or 5.1 mix?
I have to admit to all of you that this announcement is coming out of the blue and I'd like to see an explanation from EH as well as Geffen/Universal to clarify things just what it is exactly that they are offering.

Added release details. -- Linda

2008 issue DVD - Originally produced in 1997 as the premiere episode of the acclaimed 'Classic Albums' television series, [title]The Making of Electric Ladyland[/title] is newly edited with expanded features and almost 40 minutes of additional content not seen in the original feature. Some of Jimi's closest associates are seen on screen discussing their recollections of Hendrix and the project including JHE bassist Noel Redding, drummer Mitch Mitchell, manager Chas Chandler who discovered Hendrix after he left the Animals; drummer Buddy Miles who appeared on the album and later went on to work with Hendrix in The Band of Gypsys, Jefferson Airplane's Jack Casady, Steve Winwood and Dave Mason from Traffic and others who participated in the 'Electric Ladyland' sessions that took place at Olympic studios in London and The Record Plant in New York. One of the highlights of the program includes a session with original Electric Ladyland engineer Eddie Kramer who discusses the techniques Hendrix, Mitchell and Redding employed in recording 'Electric Ladyland' and playing some of the original multitrack tapes to illustrate the process.

I'm gonna go with a re-packaging of the Eagle release Steve. EH isn't coming out with anything new, the Monterrey releases were nothing new.

Woopee :yay:

Jaine has done it again. Same old stuff re-packaged.

Why the hell didn't she release a CD of out-take Electric Lady tracks or even a 5.1 mix of the original album to commemorate the 40th anniversary.

No wonder Hendrix fans are beginning to wonder if Douglas was as bad as they originally thought.

Peeed of Hendrix fan :sigh:

Anyone hear anything further about an authorized release of the Royal Albert Hall film? I vaguely recall seeing something on this board this past summer about a release at some point this year or next.

Re: Albert Hall

It's still in the production stage from what I hear.

I have an un-official DVD of that show and it is amazing, however the editing is terrible as most 60s music shows were in those days, remember the Cream Albert Hall show, yuck !

Lets hope Janie gives all her Jimi tapes to a producer who can finally come up with some innovative Hendrix stuff.
