Quite a few songs from 80s movies hit #1 on the Billboard singles chart. I count 12 #1 hits that include the title of the movie in the song title. The song title may be exactly the same as the movie title, or may have more words ("Batdance" does NOT count.) How many can you name? List the song title and the artist(s) who recorded it.

No Googling please.

I love 80's music, but I paid no attention to BILLBOARD charts at the time.

Call Casey Kasem if you want to get down with that shit.

Well, while we're here, how about "Flashdance (What a Feeling)" by Irene Cara?

"Fame" (Irene Cara?) had the movie title in the song title.

For Your Eyes Only
Purple Rain
Flashdance (What a Feeling)
Fame
St Elmo's Fire
Breathless
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Beyond Thunderdome (We Don't Need Another Hero)

Some of those might not have been #1's

St. Elmo's Fire was a really huge #2, in my opinion.

OK, so far we got:

Ghostbusters--Ray Parker Jr.
Flashdance...What a Feeling--Irene Cara
Chariots of Fire - Titles--Vangelis
St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)--John Parr
Footloose--Kenny Loggins

Purple Rain peaked at #2.
Thunderdome peaked at #2.
Fame peaked at #4.
For Your Eyes Only peaked at #4.

What about Kenny Rogers' The Gambler? :D

I know the song came out first, but...well, it still fits the criteria. ;)

That song had to have been a hit. He was on The Muppet Show and everything. :D

Didn't girls just want to have fun hit number 1? I know that was a cheesy movie with sarah jessica parker.

Don't know if the song hit #1 but...

Back to the Future (Back in Time) - Huey Lewis & The News

Don't think this one meets your requirement but I'm sure it hit #1...

"The Power of Love" did hit #1, but since it's not the movie title, it doesn't fit the criteria.

"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" peaked at #2. I was thinking songs written for movies rather than vice versa, but I would've moved the number of answers to 13 (if it had hit #1).

"Goonies R Good Enough" peaked at #10.

"The Gambler" peaked at #16. Same deal as "Girls..." above. Wasn't it a made-for-TV movie?

Would you count Axel F since it is the name of the main character?

And, how about this for a loophole?

Did the song "Stand by Me" ever hit #1 when it was originally released? :)

Doesn't count. We need the movie title in there someplace.
