It's an HP Touchsmart, sitting in my den right next to an easy chair.

I'm turning it on now. Got to get it going and also hook up a new wireless router.

Wow! Good luck! That is the most frustrating part to me and with two hard drive crashes this year I am getting really tired of router settings. I even managed to reset a neighbor's router. With my password. Months ago. And it is still on. Either they never use it, or just assume it is broken and will replace it one day.

I heard the Touchsmart's had some nice touch screen capabilities
(intuitive and useful). I did hear, however, that they ran a bit pokey.

I was just reconfiguring my router, by the way. My brother couldn't get to a couple
of sites for some reason or another. I was able to get to them directly (once I removed
the router), so I went in and looked at the router config files. It uses a web interface to
configure the router (from a directly cabled computer), but the damn thing was crawling
through the menus (like four or five minutes to refresh between keys pressed). I tried
the physical reset button on it, and reconnected. Still slow as all get out trying to config
the thing. I just ended up changing the admin password and taking the defaults because
I just got tired of that Linksys piece of [#$%@^^] . It's working, but I know the default
settings are pretty [%&$##&@!] poor security.

I finally got it done. It was the router talking to the modem talking to my old computer that took so long. I ended up having to call both Linksys and DSL provider.

It seems like a screamer to me. My laptop is from 2003, and I want it for nothing but web, photos, iTunes (podcasts), and audibooks (to put on iPod).

The touchscreen is really cool.

That's good. Which version did you get?

This is exciting.

I bought a G5 iMac back in August and I still get tingly when I sit down behind it.

The IQ505, which is the more basic model, I think. 4 GB Ram, 500 GB HD.

They have one for a few hundy more with Blu-ray, more HD space, and a faster processor.

But that one is not available at Sam's Club.

Hard to beat the price when Sam's or Costco makes a big move to push something. I already wanted this computer, and now Sam's has a big display with a whole pallet of them. It was a hundred bucks cheaper than Amazon, and it's sitting right there.

There will be more of them. Vista supposedly has a bunch of built in Tablet PC stuff, and Microsoft is working on some true "desktop" machines (i.e. your workspace is your computer screen or something).

I just like because I do my PC'ing in my TV den. It's perfect to reach over and wake up the screen (instantly) by touching it. And just do a couple things without having to have a keyboard or mouse.

That will very likely be my next PC.

Or maybe a Mac. I dunno. I heard they are nice iPhone accessories.

I like this wireless keyboard. It's thin and light, like holding and oversized graham cracker. They sell this keyboard separately, too. And it is sleek.

That looks crazy cool. What's it like in the future? Do we all wear silver suits?
