Hopefully these will be affordably priced like the previous discs and retain the jewel box packaging:
STEVE HOFFMAN: I'm looking forward to working on these upcoming Audio Fidelity 24 Karat Gold compact discs. ALL WILL BE LIMITED EDITIONS.
The Band-Self Titled, their second (and most beloved) album aka "The Brown Album" has been a favorite of ours for many years. We tried to do it for DCC but couldn't for technical reasons. A loan of the master tape will insure our version will sound amazing.
Linda Ronstadt-Heart Like A Wheel is one of my favorite albums. Her best in my opinion. Our version will be directly from the analog master.
Alice Cooper-School's Out will get the Audio Fidelity treatment. I'm looking forward to working on this!
The Beach Boys-Pet Sounds. And of course it was the worst kept secret that Pet Sounds will be issued in the original Brian Wilson/Chuck Britz monaural mix from 1966. For those of you who missed out on the DCC version here will be your chance to grab one. No need to pay the big bucks anymore on eBay for this title.
This is just the beginning, folks.
Added:
Capitol/EMI currently has a moratorium on licensing VINYL to audiophile labels. I bet this will be over in six months and we can do some vinyl titles.

I'm sure I'll pick up a few of these but the Alice is the only album in that list which has never really been remastered. I've already got the DCC Pet Sounds and the remasters of The Band and Heart Like a Wheel sound fine to me already.

So will AF use Steve's original mastering of Pet Sounds, or will Steve master it again for AF?
Hoffman was recently trolling at his website for a copy of the original mono vinyl of Pet Sounds, so it sounds like he plans to take another swing at remastering it.

Hoffman doesn't live any more in the past than the people who will buy these titles for the ump-teenth time, though. Can we really expect much from another release of Pet Sounds?

I'm putting in for The Band, Linda Ronstadt, Beach Boys & Alice Cooper titles when they come out. I did ask that Straight Up from Badfinger be reissued as I have a few friends who are in dire need of having this album in their collections. Plus, they wouldn't have to pay the big auction bucks for the OOP DCC. I imagine a few things may end up getting reissued that some people had to pass on the first time around. He's claiming to be open to getting titles from all of the majors he can, but I'm guessing that it is a more safe bet to be hoping for Warner Brothers and Capitol/EMI titles and perhaps some smaller independent stuff. Like Linda had mentioned in another thread a short time ago, I imagine Universal is going to keep rolling out the Deluxe Edition packages to keep us all salivating and the Sony will still throw us an occasional bone with Legacy Editions or Anniversary Editions of things.

I've tweaked Chris' thread title to match our Mobile Fidelity thread. Now, here's the first announced release in the new AF series ...
[bigred]The Band: The Band[/bigred] [lilred]April 7, 2009[/lilred]
Released in 1969, this famous classic is popularly known as the “Brown Album”. This historic album put The Band in the mainstream consciousness and remains a timeless classic. The Band was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and this is the album that put them there. Their influence on the music scene started as the backup band for Bob Dylan on his 1965-66 world tour and when they started recording on their own with a contract from Capitol Records, this, their second album, was the top of their creative spark. The album features, “Up On Cripple Creek”, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”, “King Harvest”, “Rag Mama Rag” and many more including the Bonus Track, "Get Up Jake". Mastered for Audio Fidelity 24 Karat Gold from the analog Capitol master mixes by Steve Hoffman.
1. Across the Great Divide 2. Rag Mama Rag 3. Night They Drove Old Dixie Down 4. When You Awake 5. Up on Cripple Creek 6. Whispering Pines 7. Jemima Surrender 8. Rockin' Chair 9. Look out Cleveland 10. Jawbone 11. Unfaithful Servant 12. King Harvest (Has Surely Come) 13. Get Up Jake
