wow that's a lot of money for the dvds, even at the sale price. Unless thoses DVDs are packed to the gills will audio content...and who is going to risk a pre-order that may not occur until President Palin makes an Executive Order in 2016. "I spotted Neil from my Porch when he was visiting home, you know..."

WAY WAY WAY Too much money, this stuff is around 40 years old and deemed not worthy of release at the time by the artist. All I need is stereo (or mono if that is the source) recordings on CD.

Damn ! What are the record companies and artists thinking nowadays? They are just BEGGING for people to swap copies at this rate. First Dylan and Columbia/Sony with the $100 3rd cd for the latest Bootleg Series and now Neil`s overpriced cutting floor set. If they are trying to get us all to pay for one last hurrah for their bank accounts, there will be a lot less of us adding to their coffers at this rate ! How short sighted can they be ! Amazing.

Well, it is a lot, but consider that the Product Details show 1200 minutes of material. So it looks like each DVD (or BluRay disc) will have 120 minutes, or two hours, of material. So, the 10 discs are the equivalent of 15 CDs (if each was packed with 80 minutes). Still, a 15 disc CD box set shouldn't cost anywhere near the $344.99 list price of the DVD set, but the $240.99 sale price isn't too far off per disc from what a normal box set is often priced at ($50 to $60). It's still on the high end, but not outrageous. All that said, they are really pricing a lot of fans right out of the picture doing it this way and at this price.

i'm a little confused here.

if this only coming out on DVD (not DVD-A) and blu-ray, will you still be able to listen on your stereo set-up if it is not hooked up to your TV?

or will you have to get a separate DVD or blu-ray player to hook to your stereo system to listen to these?

Depends on what you are using to play CDs through your stereo set-up. I think most people, but not all, these days have a "multi-disc" player. For instance, mine will play CDs, DVDs, SACDs, DVD-As, etc. It's rare these days to find a player that will ONLY play CDs. That said, if indeed these are true DVDs, and depending on how they author them, it may be hard to navigate through the menus and materials if you do not have a TV also hooked up to it for a visual indication of where you want to go and what you want to listen to.

The price is a stunner. I'm a big fan and I've been looking forward to this for a long time. But I'm not sure I can justify that price-tag.

Put my pre-order in for the Blu-ray set. Stinks I could end up paying over $26 in taxes for this but get free shipping.

This will probably never come out so it will be fun to see all the emails Amazon sends me concerning price changes and shipping date changes....then theres the "do you still want this?" email.

Renny, if it's dvd only, you will need to have some sort of dvd player hooked up to your stereo.

Another N.Y completist......I will steal it from a torrent sight with no regrets or loss of sleep whatsoever! If Mr. Young has a problem with this I invite him to come to me and discuss the situation.

I have been holding off on responding to this subject until I've had a few days to think about this. I feel I can express myself adequately enough that I can explain my position.
I feel as if Neil Young and Warner Brothers have no concept of the fact that we are in the midst of a Recession. If enough things get fouled up, we could be looking into the cold, hard face of another Great Depression.
I also feel as if Neil and WB also have no concept of the fact that I'm looking at a 2009 which includes possible Beatles and Rolling Stones remasters, Doors Bright Midnight releases and documentary, a possible Janis Joplin unreleased series, surprise archive and Deluxe Edition releases, Hendrix releases, more Hayes Archives releases from Honest Jon's, stuff that Dusty Groove specializes in as well as stuff I have on Wish Lists that I've had to pass on over the years.
Add to that my love of books, posters, poster frames and sports items as well. So, Neil and Warner Brothers expect me to to just drop all of this? It becomes a case of the old Star Trek axiom "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few". Do I want to drop all of my other collecting just to get Neil's Archive box?
I really and truely want to get this thing. I just wish it was being issued in more modest increments. As it stands right now, all I can see is the monumental size of Neil's ego and the greed of WB in this for the time being. I have no doubt of the possibility that some not so nice verbal exchanges have come to pass between Neil and WB over this. So, what they are both going to have to hope for is that my January is going to be light enough that I can pull this off. And btw, I thought this was going to be delayed to Feb/March. How do we know that this thing isn't going to delayed even more? In January, I have to deal with the 3 Universal releases for Buddy Holly and make decisions on those as well as The Who: The Who Sell Out Deluxe Edition.
I don't which side of things Neil and WB are looking on, but I don't think they are looking at the side I'm on. I really want to get this. I just wish they'd release this series in more modest increments.

Is this set expensive? Yes. Is it prohibitively so? Perhaps.

But I find it a little difficult to swallow a reference to recession/depression immediately followed by a laundry list like this. We're all music lovers here, and while it's probably fair to say that most of us consider music essential to our lives, let's also try to maintain some perspective about what is ultimately a discretionary purchase. If you're not worried about losing your job, losing your house, losing your retirement savings, losing your health insurance, or wondering how you're going to feed and clothe your family, you're in far better shape than thousands - if not millions - of Americans who are truly suffering the effects of the current economy.

I mentioned before there should be a subscription type of deal with this archives i.e 1 DVD/CD per month that you subscribe to.

This is the best way economically.
