Reading this early 2000s run of Daredevil via my local library. Wow! This is good stuff. Anyone else dig this run?

He just beat the crap out of the Kingpin...

I own this run via trade and it's one of my favorites ever. And cheaply available through Amazon Sellers.

Yeah- I really enjoyed it. It ended abruptly for me though, as I moved house and cancelled all my comics. I think the last episode I read had
Spoiler: show
Ben Urich accusing DD of having had a nervous breakdown- which is why he'd let his secret i.d. slip and got married
. I don't know what happened after that.

Fake fan trade-waiters.

I have every issue, and coincidentally, I've been re-reading the whole of DD Vol. 2 lately. The Bendis/Maleev stuff holds up very well for me.

When this was coming out I thought it was better than the classic Miller run. I bought the Omnibus but I haven't started re-reading it yet.

Ever have such a blinding hatred of a writer that you'll never, ever give him a chance? These are my feelings about Bendis after he completely ruined my favorite comic. TWICE.

Bendis tricked me. I liked his DD, but not much else that he's done.

I wish Maleev's art had been this good when he was drawing Batman.

This is my second favorite Bendis book (after Alias) and my favorite DD run (not counting Born Again). I really need to buy the Omnibus.

I know the reference, but I never read that comic....because it was written by Bendis.

David Mack also had a short run on DD around the time of Maleev. A good supplement to your Maleev. Is it pronounced "Ma-lee-ev" or "Ma-leev"?

I never read it either. I think I just saw it when it was posted at the JBF.

Nothing beats "I WILL LIQUIFY YOUR HEAD!" from the same DD run.

Other than Born Again, this is my favorite Daredevil run, and one of my favorite Marvel runs ever. There is very little not to like here. This is some of Bendis' best writing, brimming with drama, effortless dialogue and real moral dilemmas. He takes Matt Murdock on a believable journey, one in which Matt is not quite the hero, yet we never stop liking him and he never stops being a sympathetic character. In many ways it's the deepest exploration of what it means to be Daredevil yet, and is in fact a broader meditation on the nature of responsibility to self vs. responsibility to others.

Maleev's art is stunning. It's rich and layered and textured, with the perfect amount of grit for the street-level stories being told here while also giving a good sense of power and purpose to the Daredevil scenes. Despite the stylized nature of his work, his storytelling is outstanding (see the Nuff Said issue). He's a perfect match to the story Bendis told.

Capping it all off is a bold as hell ending I won't reveal here. It was done with the approval of Ed Brubaker, the next writer on the series, and is not at all what you expect ... yet still feels like the natural end to this story.

Fantastic run. One for the ages. And for all the (well deserved) criticism Bendis gets, this is one that he just NAILS. He earned his accolades with Daredevil.
