No idea how the sound is (I have the Wounded Bird), but this is a tragically underlooked/under appreciated tremendous album.
I agree. Bought this in 1974 with no expectations as I didn't appreciate their history and liked it for what it is...not what it isn't. In retrospect now with the complete historical picture I can understand some of the disappointment. But I still like it. Could it have been better? Certainly the mix could have been better. McGuinn's 12-string basically mixed out of a lot of stuff is kind of sad......

Both of the "bonus tracks" were available on the Gene Clark "Roadmaster"album. When the tracks were recorded, the Byrds came in individuallly; rather than record as a band.

The Gene Clark tracks on this album are terrific. I think his songs are the closest the set comes to classic Byrds. Still, it's a strong album. I bought it when it came out and I have the Wounded Bird CD plus the Roadmaster CD. I may still get this release if the sound is better.

The new remaster did finally end up being released by Raven, but apparently ran into licensing issues that prevented Amazon USA from importing it. Some third party sellers do have it in stock now, and it can also be purchased directly from Amazon UK:

There is a 2014 Japanese Asylum "Blu-spec" remaster that concerns me, as it shows a "DR8" (highly compressed). I haven't yet had the chance to audibly compare it to the Wounded Bird version. Don't know if Raven used the same master as the Japanese Asylum or not. The Japanese remaster has no bonus tracks.
