Squire weren't considered "serious Mods" by the scenesters at the time, unlike say The Chords or The Purple Hearts. They were way too poppy and wore some influences on their sleeves that were turnoffs to many in the Quadrophenia Qash-In Qrowd. (Been years since I've used that phrase.

) For example they recorded a cover of Big Star's "September Gurls". Personally I think they hold up better today than several of the "true" Mod groups of that time do ~ outside their era, they just sound like a quality power pop band with some Who around the edges.
