Description
It's been an extraordinary journey for Gaz Coombes, from flashily whiskered pop tearaway to Ivor Novello and BRIT award winning rock star to soundtracking the summer (he was responsible for that sublime cover of The Kinks' 'This Time Tomorrow' for John Lewis earlier this year). The mega-watt melodic genius responsible for ten Top 20 hits and six Top 20 albums - Supergrass' I Should Coco was Parlophone's fastest selling debut since The Beatles' Please Please Me - returns with his remarkable new album, entitled Matador. "There's this disposable vibe around music at the moment which is odd, because it's so obviously central to most people's lives," says Gaz. "Life is full of moments of fear, loss and longing, but it's how you get through those things and triumph over them which define you. But there's as much light as there is dark on this record; there's beauty in both of those states and that has always intrigued me."

Tracklist
1. Buffalo
2. 20/20
3. The English Ruse
4. The Girl Who Fell to Earth
5. Detroit
6. Needle's Eye
7. Seven Walls
8. Oscillate
9. To the Wire
10. Is It On?
11. Matador

I haven't heard anything about a domestic release for this album so I preordered it from Amazon UK. I hope this isn't one of those instances where I get the import and then an expanded US edition comes out a few months later.

From Gaz's Facebook page

> A message to Gaz fans in USA & Canada: we don't have a record label in North America yet, so you won't find Matador in your stores. HOWEVER if you buy the album from Gaz's own store (signed by Gaz), we will post it to you. GCHQx http://gazcoombes.sandbag.uk.com/Store/ ... Items.html <

Thanks for the info. I think I'll stick with my AmazWAN UK order, though, since the price is the same and Amazon removes the VAT (almost 17%) from the price before shipping it to the US. Good to know that there's no US release imminent but hopefully he gets a deal soon and tours here.

Here's a mini-documentary about the making of the album:

Just got my CD today. Hoping to give it a spin at work tomorrow. I've avoided listening to individual songs so I could hear it in its entirety. I'll play that making-of video after I hear the album. Thanks for posting it, Linda.

I ordered from the UK as soon as I heard it was available. "Supergrass" is one of all-time fave groups from that period.

I loved them in that they had the spirit of the Small Faces and wrote and performed such killer songs.

"In It For The Money" is a stone cold classic of an album.

It's been over a year since it came out in Britain, but the Matador album will finally be released domestically on March 18th:

I've yet to buy it, so thanks for this.
I'm bummed because he's playing Los Angeles, but I already have tickets for Field Music the same night.
