Description
LOUDNESS has been dominating the worldwide heavy metal scene ever since their birth in 1981 with classic albums like THUNDER IN THE EAST (1985 / #74 US national chart) and LIGHTNING STRIKES (1986 / #64 US national chart). Their latest studio album from 2018, "RISE TO GLORY -8118-" was released worldwide through earMUSIC and was highly acclaimed both by the heavy metal maniacs and the critics. In September of 2018, the event named METAL WEEKEND was held at the famous Zepp DiverCity Tokyo. Loudness headlined the event for four nights in a row alongside guest bands such as RIOT V and ANTHEM, making every evening a huge success.

Oh yeah!

How ironic this is.

The last week I’ve been listening to every Loudness album in order.

Not that anyone here cares.

I started at 1981 and I’m up to 1994.

Akira Takasaki is a guitar legend.

It’s been so nice too see these guys get respect again in the US and be able to tour here.

We had a blast when we saw them live, and I got a Takasaki guitar pic!

I'm pretty disappointed that Amazon is only listing this as a one disc set. Should have been at least a double with all the material they had. Wouldn't have been a bit opposed to a double Blu-ray of all four nights as I would assume that they had filmed this.

The four setlists from those headlining shows, from setlist.fm:

Night One
8118 (intro tape)
Soul on Fire
I'm Still Alive
Crazy Nights
Like Hell
Heavy Chains
The Sun Will Rise Again
Go For Broke
Ares' Lament
Until I See The Light
Kama Sutra
Drum Solo
Massive Tornado
Rain
This Lonely Heart
Crazy Doctor
In the Mirror
S.D.I.
Farewell (outro tape)
The End (The Doors song) (outro tape)

Night Two
Shout at the Devil (Motley Crue song) (intro tape)
The Lines Are Down
Crazy Nights
Like Hell
Heavy Chains
Get Away
We Could Be Together
Loudness
In the Mirror
Crazy Doctor
Requiem (from tape)
The King of Pain
Rain
Soul on Fire
I'm Still Alive
The Sun Will Rise Again
S.D.I.
Farewell (outro tape)
The End (The Doors song) (outro tape)

Night Three
Theme of Loudness Part II (intro tape)
In the Mirror
The Law of Devil's Land
Black Wall
Sleepless Night
Speed
Crazy Doctor
Milky Way
Ares' Lament
Dream Fantasy
Esper
Go For Broke
Until I See The Light
The Sun Will Rise Again
S.D.I.
Crazy Nights (with Todd, Don, and Mike from Riot)
The End (The Doors song) (outro tape)

Night Four
8118 (intro tape)
Soul on Fire
I'm Still Alive
Go For Broke
Kanpai (Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi cover)
Ares' Lament
Until I See The Light
Rise To Glory
Massive Tornado
Rain
Crazy Nights (with Tak Matsumoto)
Let It Go
This Lonely Heart
Dreamer (LAZY cover) (Vo: Hironobu Kageyama from Lazy, Key: Shunji Inoue from Lazy)
Earth Ark (LAZY cover) (Vo: Hironobu Kageyama, Key: Shunji Inoue, B: Naoto Shibata from Anthem )
Burn (Deep Purple cover) (Vo: Hironobu Kageyama, Key: Shunji Inoue, B: Naoto Shibata)
Ghetto Machine (B: Naoto Shibata)
Black Widow (B: Naoto Shibata)
Crazy Doctor (with Koshi Inaba)
In the Mirror
S.D.I.
Eruption (from tape)
Loudness (Dr: Masayuki “Ampan” Suzuki)
Farewell (outro tape)
The End (The Doors song) (outro tape)

BTW, looked it up on CD Japan and it appears the Japanese release will be 2CD + Blu-ray. 2 CDs are night one and the Blu-ray is night one + the performance of Loudness from night four. The Blu-ray in this set is region free. We'll see if this same three disk set is released in other territories.

I think Amazon has screwed up this listing. EarMusic is only advertising this as a 2CD + DVD set, so there probably isn't a 1 CD version. No indication of a Blu-ray on the EarMusic website, so the 2 CD + Blu-ray may be Japanese only.

Given the information from Joseph, Loudness collectors might want to take a chance and lock in the current pre-order price in case this listing turns out to be the full 2CD/1DVD set:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PYJ5KG8/?tag=imwan-20

The release date is two months away and there'll be plenty of time to cancel if necessary.

2 CD/1 DVD is right up my alley.

The setlists for those special shows were pretty amazing each night and I'd assume this cherry picks from each show.

Japanese and international versions appear to be completely different.

Track list of Japanese version from CD Japan:

Blu-ray or DVD:
1 OPENING
2 SOUL ON FIRE
3 I’M STILL ALIVE
4 CRAZY NIGHTS
5 LIKE HELL
6 HEAVY CHAINS
7 THE SUN WILL RISE AGAIN
8 GO FOR BROKE
9 ARES’ LAMENT~UNTIL I SEE THE LIGHT
10 KAMA SUTRA -Instrumental-~Drum Solo
11 MASSIVE TORNADO
12 RAIN
13 THIS LONELY HEART
14 CRAZY DOCTOR
15 IN THE MIRROR
16 S.D.I.
17 ENDING
18 LOUDNESS

CD1:
1 8118 -Instrumental-
2 SOUL ON FIRE
3 I’M STILL ALIVE
4 CRAZY NIGHTS
5 LIKE HELL
6 HEAVY CHAINS
7 THE SUN WILL RISE AGAIN
8 GO FOR BROKE
9 ARES’ LAMENT~UNTIL I SEE THE LIGHT

CD2:
1 KAMA SUTRA -Instrumental-
2 MASSIVE TORNADO
3 RAIN
4 THIS LONELY HEART
5 CRAZY DOCTOR
6 IN THE MIRROR
7 S.D.I. 【収録予定曲】

CD Japan states that all the above are taken from night one of the Metal Weekend shows. But the last track of the Blu-ray (Loudness) was not played on night one, so either the setlist at setlist.fm was incomplete or they included that from night two or night four (or there is always a chance that the music for that song is just playing during the closing credits). In Japan there is a 1 Blu-ray + 2 CD version OR a 1 DVD + 2 CD version. Looks like the content between the Blu-ray and DVD are identical. Note that the Blu-ray will be region free, the DVD is region 2.

The international version (EarMusic) release. Track listing taken directly from their website.

DVD:
1. SOUL ON FIRE
2. I'M STILL ALIVE
3. LIKE HELL
4. HEAVY CHAINS
5. THE SUN WILL RISE AGAIN
6. GO FOR BROKE
7. ARES' LAMENT / UNTIL I SEE THE LIGHT
8. KAMA SUTRA (INSTRUMENTAL)
9. CRAZY DOCTOR
10. IN THE MIRROR
11. S.D.I.
12. LOUDNESS (with Masayuki Suzuki)
13. CRAZY NIGHTS (with RIOT V)

CD1:
1. THE LINES ARE DOWN
2. CRAZY NIGHTS
3. LIKE HELL
4. HEAVY CHAINS
5. GET AWAY
6. WE COULD BE TOGETHER
7. LOUDNESS
8. IN THE MIRROR
9. CRAZY DOCTOR

CD2:
1. IN THE MIRROR
2. THE LAW OF DEVIL'S LAND
3. BLACK WALL
4. SLEEPLESS NIGHT
5. SPEED
6. CRAZY DOCTOR
7. MILKY WAY
8. ARES' LAMENT
9. DREAM FANTASY
10. ESPER

Currently, EarMusic is listing no other "format" than a DVD + 2 CD version. Their website doesn't specify what songs come from what shows. But it looks like the DVD is a mix of several different nights, CD1 is part of the night two show and CD2 is part of the night three show.

Looks like I might have to get both versions, although the Japanese Blu-ray + 2 CD version is really expensive ($72.64 with the current exchange rate).

As I'm cranking up Heavy Metal Hippies right now, I was curious for your thoughts on the Mike Vescera-era (God-awful to me) and the Masaki years (a lot of killer stuff and I found him to be a better singer than Niihara, but too much of it had a Grunge feel as the 90s went on).

Niihara is an acquired taste, but I love the guy and he really is an important part of their sound.

I just have the early stuff through Soldier of Fortune and then I lost track of them until Rise to Glory. I really didn't dislike Soldier of Fortune, not really sure why I had lost interest. I thought Rise to Glory was a great release and have to go back and check out some of those albums I missed.
