I can see people taking bets online on which ones get eaten by dinosaurs.

I'm not too sure about that Rancor-looking thing but the rest of it looks great to me. Seems to be a Lost World vibe returning. I'm all in regardless, because dinosaurs.

I haven't watched any of these since the very first movie. Do different people keep cloning dinosaurs? Do they keep discovering pockets of "lost" dinosaurs?

First two are worthwhile; the third is a fun action movie but clearly a downgrade. If you haven't see the Lost World I'd recommend it. The three most recent ones (the "World" series) imagine that the concept of a dinosaur amusement park finally succeeded before going horribly wrong after 10 years. Each degrade more from the last while capitalizing on the nostalgia and peoples general love of dinosaurs. In all cases, they are the same company cloning dinosaurs, just with varying degrees of stupid mistakes. This latest one seems to be trying to go back to the roots somewhat. Since Chris Pratt won't be in this one putting his hand out in a "halt" gesture in front of every dinosaur he sees (which somehow always stops them from attacking him ), it will probably be an improvement over the last three.
You'd really think that people would have learned by now that cloning dinosaurs is a bad idea. I certainly wouldn't want to invest in such an venture.
"Seriously, this time it's going to be different!"
"Sorry, I am not about to join all those other investors who lost their shirts over liability issues."

Well, the whole thing is a flimsy excuse to have dinosaurs and people interact, but I'll have a go at defending it (sort of) anyway. Only one company cloned dinosaurs, in this universe: INGEN. They created an early cloning center, which is where this new film is set. They created a development island for the first Jurassic Park, known as Site B, which we visit in The Lost World, and again in JP3. Finally, they believe they got it all right and open a theme park, Jurassic World, in the original location of the first planned Jurassic Park, on Isla Nublar. It runs for 10 years or so, before greed and hubris leads them to start making hybrid clones, which leads to the downfall of it all. So in the end, from the public perspective, we have one failed park, and then one successful one (Jurassic World). After the latter, no one thinks it's a good idea anymore. This latest film doesn't have new cloning, but rather revisits something we haven't been told of before, which "already existed", in universe.
