Bannings: If you're not nice
London, UK. (Top40 Charts/ Stiff Records) - Stiff Records is proud to announce "Barking Up The Right Tree," the debut single from The Producers - a true super-group in the proper, old-fashioned sense of the word. As individual producers and artists, they've scored more than 200 hit singles and albums, and now they've come together to get back to basics and write and perform in their own right.

The Producers are:
* Lol Creme: guitars/vocals (10cc, Godley & Creme, Kate Bush)
* Trevor Horn: bass/vocals (Buggles, Yes, Pet Shop Boys, tATu)
* Stephen Lipson: guitars (Rolling Stones, McCartney, Annie Lennox)
* Chris Braide: keyboards/vocals (Will Young, Kylie Minogue)
* Ash Soan: drums (Marianne Faithful, Faithless, Natasha Bedingfield)

The Producers started out playing a string of impromptu, secret gigs at venues like the Camden Barfly at the end of last year, and were joined on stage by friends and collaborators like Will Young and Jamie Cullum. Since then, they've been holed up at Trevor Horn's infamous Sarm West studios recording their debut album and single, "Barking Up The Right Tree."

Having been responsible for some of the most lavish and extravagant pop music and videos of the past 20 years, The Producers is a group getting back to their roots, playing and writing for themselves and creating something quite different: hand-made and hand-crafted. A beautiful, shuffling ballad, "Barking Up The Right Tree" is a perfect summer single, whether it's sunny beaches or washed-out seaside towns.

As well as taking lead vocals on "Barking Up The Right Tree," Lol Creme delivers a unique, hand-drawn animated video. The genius behind classics like Frankie's "Two Tribes" and Herbie Hancock's "Rockit," this is Lol's first new video for 13 years and his first ever animated work.

This is Lol's artsy video for the single:

Yay, an actual CD single! I'll buy one!

Although when I saw the group name, I thought of the 80s new wave pop band ("She Sheila").

Yeah how can they use the same name w/o not only copyright infringment issues but causing major confusion?. Stupid move on their part. And I can smell a lawsuit a mile away.

Linda, I am assuming that the Stiff release is domestic and not import? Thanks

If their album is actually released in the States, bet they're called "The Producers UK" or something like that.

The reverse, hon ~ import only.

Damn, I knew you were going to say that.

And that UK part... didn't they do that to the Quierboys (sp?) by adding London? And at one time UK was added to Squeeze. But for them, I don't remember why.

Thanks Linda, as always.

So many bands have had to do that, at least initially ~ The Charlatans UK, Wham UK, the ones you mentioned ~ in England the Spinners are known as "The Detroit Spinners" for the same reason, to avoid lawsuits. But the best one ever in my book was the British band who called themselves "America UK"!

From AMG: In America, the band and (debut) album had to change their name to UK Squeeze, in order to avoid confusion with an American band called Tight Squeeze; by the end of the year, they had reverted back to Squeeze in the U.S.

I hear Mel Brooks wants a piece of the action, as well.

I remember thinking the same thing as Rich when I saw an album by a rap group called The Firm. I was hoping Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers would sue their asses.

But seriously. This song is one of the best I've heard in a long time. If anyone finds out more about the actual album, please post it. I want to get it as soon as it comes out.

it really is one of the best things out of the 10CC camp in quite some time.

renny

p.s. 10CC fans, if you haven't heard wax (they have 3 albums and a comp) seek them out, very 10CCish. wax is graham gouldman and andrew gold.

also gouldman's "and another thing" which came out a couple years ago was very good, whereas eric stewart's solo effort of a couple ago, "do not bend", was quite a disappointment.

Here's something that was sort of a Graham Gouldman appreciation thread from a couple years back -
