New Frontier.

Writing: All-Star Superman made Superman cool. However, New Frontier made THE ENTIRE FRICKIN' DC UNIVERSE* COOL!

Art: Cooke trumps Quitely (who I like).

*Aquaman not included

All-Star Superman.

New Frontier is the most overrated and over-priced series in the history of comics.

And here I thought I'd be the only person to vote for ASS over NF.

I like NEW FRONTIER, mind you. I just like ALL-STAR SUPES more.

I go the opposite for that very reason. Other than the Batman, I'm mostly apathetic to therest of the DCU. A series that focuses on my favorite superhero rather than making him a back up for Hal Jordon and Barry Allen is going to get me more interested.

I think Cooke is a truly phenomenal artist, but I happen to like the way the art on A*SS came out just a little more.

Bottom line-- A*SS is the most satisfying read I've had since I read DKR/WAtchmen when I was a teen. This is the Superman comic I've waited my whole life for.

It wasn't overpriced. It was, IIRC three times the size (per issue) as a regular comic. For that, the price was comparable.

It's not overrated, either, but that's a whole 'nother argument.

The only thing I have clear is that Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely and Darwyn Cooke are full of win and awe.

I agree on the price points. The issues were gigantic; I can't remember the cover price off hand, but didn't the comics have 64 pages or something? That's like 3 issues worth of material per book; the issues were less than 9 dollars, so in fact, they were a bargain.

And that's even before you factor in the massive quality of the work within.

Seriously, I'd rather pay 10 bucks an issue for an incredible read like A*SS or NF than 50 cents on a mediocre comic book. Quality is everything.

Just checked online. $6.95 for 64 pages. That works out to $2.32 an issue (minus a couple of pages). At the time it came out, a 22 page comic from DC (Aquaman, for example) cost $2.50 an issue.

Cost per page:

New Frontier: just under 11 cents
Aquaman: just over 11 cents

Aquaman is worth 2500 cents an issue and you know it.

It gets cancelled because if the series went on too long, the core of Earth would implode from the sheer force created by Aquaman's greatness.

The man rides a giant sea horse.

Case closed.

New Frontier.

And may I say...Aquaman gets a raw deal. There are much lamer characters, who are nowhere near as well known as Aquaman.

I'm not saying he's a great character, mind you, just that he gets a raw deal when it comes to being called lame.

This one is hard.

But in light of my comment in the SUPREME/A*SS thread about my all-time Top Five superhero books, and having just read A*SS #12...I'm going to have to go with Morrison/Quitely.

Still love NF, though.

My answer is the same as Monk's up near the top. Both are great but New Frontier FTW.

New Frontier never clicked with me. It looked pretty, and seemed like it should be enjoyable, but it left me disappointed. All*Star Superman's got my vote by a country mile.

This was a toughie... I gave All-Star the edge because it surprised me more with the quality and inventiveness. New Fronteir was an easier sell due to all of the characters they had to choose from.

This poll sucks and you suck for posting it.

Personally, it's apples and oranges, but if I had to live in a world with only one of the two...

Fuck it, I can't decide.

Wow, that's a tough choice.

Because I haven't read either.

I don't -- I'll get to them.

I ordered All Star first trade last week. One of these days I'll read New Frontier.
