Why is it that more fun seems to be more acceptable than funner?

There are a number of adjectives in the English language that, for one reason or another, did not wind up falling into that convenient "-er" comparative form. Usually it's a question of what "sounds right", which is about as subjective as you can get...but I don't know why the comparative form of "funny" is "funnier" and the comparative form of "fun" is "more fun".
Unless I just answered my own question. Were folks trying to avoid confusing "funnier" and "funner" by taking one of them out of the game?
(Man, I love words.)

And funeral. Respect for the dead made them discard funner as a word.

The bit about trying to avoid confusion between funnier and funner makes sense though. That works for me.

Why do people NOT understand the -gue concept? I read words like ROUGE (a color) being used in place of ROGUE (a person that mischievously outside the norms of society), or INTRUIGE (not a word) in place of INTRIGUE (arousing the interest or a secret scheme).
The purpose of -GUE is so that we can get the hard g sound instead of the soft g (which sounds like the j sound). That's all.

I blame the French.
Not for this. Just in general.

At one time, our ancestors probably pronounced it "gooey." But every conversation started sounding like a Monty Python skit, so it's just hard "g" sound now.

This is true. Just an oversight, Mr. Taylor. After all, you're the one who gave me a Grammar Squad badge.
All apologies.
