The business structure that existed within Ian Gillan's 1970's bands was such that any tapes of concerts, jam sessions, rough mixes of studio outtakes etc. that any specific band member holds are that member's property to release or license out as he wishes. The resulting CD's are fully legal, and song publishing moneys are paid, but it must be noted that the discs on the "Angel Air" label are not licensed or authorized by Ian Gillan himself, but rather by ex-bandmates Ray Fenwick(guitarist in "The Ian Gillan Band") & John McCoy(Bassist in "Gillan"). McCoy is a highly disgruntled ex-bandmate.
Actually,a similar business situation of individual band members owning whatever tapes are in their posession also exists within Deep Purple, though tactfully, the various present & ex Deep Purple members have refrained from releasing or licensing these tapes while Deep Purple is still in existence.
