The new issue of Rolling Stone has a very interesting report in it about the upcoming B.B. King album. He met up with T-Bone Burnett and was told by him that he wanted B.B. to go back and play like he did in the '50s. They apparently cut this album just like his old '50s recordings. Among the people who play on it are Dr. John and Jim Keltner. King picked out covers of songs that go way back in time. According to the article he had to whittle it down from about 200 choices he made. This one sounds like it's going to be a great one.

B.B. King returns to his blues roots with the help of producer T Bone Burnett on [title]One Kind Favor[/title]. The legendary artist is backed on the effort by pianist Dr. John, drummer Jim Keltner and bassist Nathan East. The track list includes such blues chestnuts as Big Bill Broonzy's "Backwater Blues," Lonnie Johnson's "Tomorrow Night," Blind Lemon Jefferson's "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean" and T-Bone Walker's "I Get So Weary."

1. See That My Grave Is Kept Clean 4:48
2. I Get So Weary 4:14
3. Get These Blues Off Me 4:28
4. How Many More Years 3:06
5. Waiting For Your Call 6:00
6. My Love Is Down 5:20
7. The World Is Gone Wrong 4:19
8. Blues Before Sunrise 4:17
9. Midnight Blues 3:44
10. Backwater Blues 7:34
11. Sitting On Top Of The World 3:36
12. Tomorrow Night 5:00

The reviews are very good. If this CD is a return to his 50's-60's style, we're in for a treat.

Unfortunately, allmusic.com doesn't have a review up yet. That and/or a review from one of you is what will help me decide if I should buy this album, so please let me know your thoughts.

Jim

As a blues afficionado, I obviously have great respect for B.B., but only own one or two releases by him. I prefer the more "cut loose" blues of a Buddy Guy or Gary Moore. However, this one sounds good. Buddy Guy just made what I believe to be his best recording ever, one that he has always wanted to make. Sounds like maybe B.B. has done the same thing.

I.M.H.O. Buddy's best work was his early work for Chess and Vanguard, especially his stuff he did with Jr. Wells. Raw Chicago blues- it doesn't get any better than that.
