Okay, I've got to see if anyone remembers this besides me.

Back around 1969 or 1970 there was a short-lived Saturday morning cartoon called Tomfoolery, and it was based on the humorous verse of Lewis Caroll and Edward Lear. I've (obviously) never seen anything like it since; I doubt that many kids enjoyed it though I was completely enchanted -and that's the word. It wasn't "funny" in a normal sense and there were no explosens or monsters or fights (conversely I loved all those ultraviolent old Popeye cartoons from the 30s and 40s) -no, Tomfoolery was enchanting, as light as a feather and obviously not fit for the social darwinism of Saturday morning.

Anyway, if anyone remembers this, please let me know that I haven't but dreamed a dream the last 38 years...

I don't remember it, but I thought I'd post this as a humble service:

Sounds like an intriguing show. I'd never heard of it before.

You didn't dream it up. Here's what the Big Cartoon Database has to say about it:

The animation was done by the British studio of Halas and Batchelor, which was considered a pretty high-class outfit in its day.
