RELEASE DATE: June 30, 2008
CD Edition limited to 5000 non-numbered limited edition copies.

The turn of the decade marked another milestone in Bo Diddley’s career, as he began recording and producing his own material at his newly-completed home studio in Washington, DC. Throughout January and February 1960, Diddley and his band, augmented by various friends and associates, laid down dozens of tracks, some of which he sent to his record company in Chicago. Self production– especially by black artists – was unheard of at the time.

Although his music was steeped in the blues, Bo was now increasingly exploring different musical directions, incorporating elements of folk music and contemporary pop into his compositions, and experimenting with new sound effects.

The huge and varied array of material presented here demonstrates that there was a lot more to Bo Diddley than meets the eye, and it’s even more amazing when you realize that everything included in this set was cut within the space of twelve months. As his recorded legacy demonstrates, Diddley at his peak was one of the most creative forces within rock ’n’ roll.

This item is listed as "SOLD OUT" on the Hip-O Select website and cannot be ordered. Can this really be true?

The Customer Service rep at Hip-O said that, since it won't be released until 6/30, no copies have been sold yet.
She thought the Sold Out status was intended to discourage people from pre-ordering......

Huh?? :o :o :o

The whole point of pre-ordering is...well, to pre-order, isn't it? Do Hip-O's CSRs expect us to believe that they don't want any orders until after the release date?

Wow, that came out of the blue. Loved the first set so I know I'll be picking up this one as well. I don't even recognize too many songs this time though: "Story of Bo Diddley," (didn't the Animals do that one?), "Mumblin' Guitar," and "Road Runner" for sure--and a couple of others maybe.

Looking forward to this.

Didn't this come out about a year ago with a similar Chuck Berry set? Or was it just the Berry set that was released? If this is as good as Chuck's it's well worth it.

I ordered a copy too. No problems. They still have vol 1 also for anyone interested. I hope vol 2 of Chuck Berry is coming soon.

The Animals "Story of Bo Diddley" was sort of a recitation, telling of a gig they played with Bo.

Bo's "My Story" is sort of autobiographical, and completely different. More like Brook Benton's "Hit Record."

"My Story" was the flip of "Road Runner," which likewise has nothing to do with Jonathan Richman

Yeah, I was amazed to see that my shipping notice arrived in my e-mail today as well. I wasn't expecting this to ship until the end of the month.

Got mine yesterday - best reissue of the year so far. Lots of unissued material. The liner notes go on to say there is much more left over from the "Bo home sessions" of early 1960...that perhap's there will me more volumes.

I hope mine comes tomorrow!
More sets would be nice. I wish someone would get around to reissuing Bo's early-mid 60's albums.
