[FEB 15] And now for a slightly belated Happy Valentine's Day for everyone. :-) But before I get to the real reason I'm updating let me say this first for the Mary fans out there. (I'd throw this down to Family Matters, but I know after you read tonight's news, you won't read any further down the page. LOL) iTunes (and other places) have FINALLY fixed the problem with Mary's CD, so if you buy it now you will get I'll Go. If you bought the album as a download already and are missing that song, I have a copy now and can send it to you. Just send me an email. Okay....... now fasten your seatbelts and hang on to your hats..... :-)

[FEB 15] In my email today, I got a message from someone with a friend in the music business who saw this interesting little press release: "The Queen is back! Legendary singer songwriter DONNA SUMMER is back with a NEW STUDIO ALBUM – CRAYONS AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE MAY 2008 on BURGUNDY/SONY

Donna shows her love for the club community as she gives an early taste of her new album before the official single “STAMP YOUR FEET” goes to radio next month.

Donna Summer - “I'm A Fire” round one mixes:

1. I'm A Fire (Solitaire Club Mix) 7:12
2. I'm A Fire (Craig C's Burnin' Master Mix) 11:02
3. I'm A Fire (Redtop's Extended Mix) 7:21
4. I'm A Fire (Sebastian Original Album Version) 7:23"

The only thing I'll add is that after I got the email, I did a little snooping on the net and found this little announcement from the company pressing copies of Stamp Your Feet. It's happening guys! :-) I will be back either tomorrow or Sunday with the regular update - which will probably be very boring compared to tonight's micro-update. LOL

The Queen is Back! Legendary singer songwriter Donna Summer is back with her first studio album in 17 years. In the thirty plus years that Donna Summer has been making music she has never confined her artistry to just one genre. Although Donna is, and will always be, "The Queen Of Disco" to many fans, her hits have spanned multiple musical genres from Rock to R&B to Inspirational and of course, Dance.

Summer helped to define the 70's pop music generation and [title]Crayons[/title] has all the characteristics that made Donna an icon. Containing a potent mix of the up-tempo tunes and ballads, the new album showcases incredible new material that is written by Donna (who wrote or co-wrote the majority of her hits of the 70's and 80's). Working with Donna were renowned writers and producers including: Greg Kurstin (Lilly Allen, Pink), Danielle Brisebois (Natasha Bedingfield, New Radicals), JR Rotem (Sean Kingston, Rihanna), Evan Bogart (co-writer of Rihanna's smash "SOS" and the son of legendary record executive, Casablanca Records founder and Donna's mentor, Neil Bogart), and Lester Mendez (Shakira, Santana).

(Edited to add tracklisting details provided by David Baker)

1. Stamp Your Feet
2. Mr. Music
3. Crayons featuring Ziggy Marley
4. The Queen is Back
5. Run With It
6. Sand On My Feet
7. Drivin' Down Brazil
8. I'm A Fire
9. Slide Over Backwards
10. Science of Love
11. Be Myself Again
12. Bring Down The Reign

Donna Summer Inks With Burgundy

February 25, 2008, 11:10 AM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Donna Summer will break a 17-year drought of studio albums with all new material thanks to a new deal with Sony BMG's Burgundy Records. Dubbed "Crayons," the project will arrive May 20.

Summer is working with a wide range of collaborators, including Danielle Brisebois, Greg Kurstin, JR Rotem, Lester Mendez and Evan Bogart.

"My dream is that when people hear the music it will remind them of their youth, their childhood and the joy and wonderment they felt exploring their first pack of crayons," Summer says.

Summer's last album of completely new material was 1991's "Mistaken Identity" (Atlantic). Since then, she has released holiday and live albums, as well as 1996's "I'm a Rainbow," featuring tracks originally cut in 1981.

Based on two listens now, this is one jaw-dropping disappointment. Seems we've waited nearly two decades for an aural train wreck of jittery, sub-Britney-like production, overprocessed vocals and often laughable lyrics.
And WTF is up with "Slide Over Backwards"? Why would Donna Summer want to sound like Macy Gray with a head cold? Yeesh. This has to be the single worst track of her 33-year career.
The rock-oriented "Science of Love" and all-out disco of "It's Only Love" (the Circuit City exclusive track) are the highlights for me.
Someone, please get this woman in touch with Giorgio Moroder or Stock Aitken Waterman -- and pronto.

Not that I was planning to buy this anyway, but it's back to my copy of Bad Girls - still cool nearly thirty years later.

I think it's actually very good -- lots of it has more of a rock-ish edge, which I like. I think the music is varied and interesting and thankfully there aren't any rappers to be found! Different strokes for different folks I guess...

I have to totally agree with you. I wanted to love this but sadly it was not to be. Slide Over Backwards is a trainwreck and there are maybe one or 2 other songs that I liked.

This was a wasted opportunity. Too bad.

That's sad. T be away from making full length albums for 17 years and to come back with a thud.

Really. As she demonstrated on "Idol" the other night, the voice is still amazing. So why'd they bury it in this murky mix? She, and we, deserve better.

Several friends and I think this is an incredible album! I'm not sure what people are expecting, but I think this ranks up there with some of Donna's classic work, albeit for a new generation. Donna has always defied expectations with her music, following the classic BAD GIRLS album with another classic, yet totally different work, THE WANDERER. I like that CRAYONS includes music that is Donna's unique take on rock, reggae, Brazilian, acoustic, and yes, dance! I am also thrilled that she did not resort to tacky guest appearances, duets, or rappers.
