CASE: (V/O) The scene: The posh mansion of Mr. Alexander J. Fatgirdle, oil magnate and mangled corpse. Though the death appears to be the result of a freak paper shredder accident, Inspector Jackson has called me, Justin Case, just in case. We are currently questioning Ethel Albatross, Fatgirdle’s daughter, and her husband Robert.
ALBATROSS: I say it was murder. Nobody liked Mr. Fatgirdle. His credit was bad and he bounced a lot of checks. He also never bathed. There, there, Ethel.
JACKSON: When did you first find the body, Mr. and Mrs. Albatross?
ETHEL: (Sobbing) About four p.m. this morning.
ALBATROSS: Yes, Ethel came into his office to wake him from his nap. Ever since he got that piece of roast beef imbedded in his skull back in Korea, Mr. Fatgirde required frequent naps, and this time was no exception. I’m afraid it was his last.
(Ethel breaks into hysterical sobbing. Albatross comforts her.)
CASE: Where were you during all this?
ALBATROSS: Oh, I was out boating or something. Nothing involving that knife sticking out of his back with my name on it or anything.
JACKSON: Figure it was just old age, Justin?
CASE: Just a minute, Inspector. Mr. Albatross, did Mr. Fatgirdle say anything to you about leaving you his entire fortune when he died?
ALBATROSS: Only on that hastily-scrawled note that he wrote in his own blood just before he died.
CASE: I see. Mr. Albatross, I’m afraid you’ll have to come down to the station with us. You are under arrest for the murder of Alexander J. Fatgirdle.
JACKSON: Astounding!
NARR.: How did Justin Case know? The answer... tomorrow!

CASE: It was obvious. Mr. Albatross had admitted his guilt to the police two hours before.
