Thanks to Marcus posting the covers in the Hero-Wero thread, I'm finally reading this run. Six issues in and I can see why people like it.

I like the set up of Deathstroke, and how he's slowly being built up to being a credible threat. Trigon's one of the nastiest villains I've read about in comics (he fries a little kid for calling him a monster), and the conflict between the Titans and Raven throughout the issues is interesting. I'm not really feeling Dr. Light's group yet, but the next issue might change that. I still prefer Perez' current stuff, but his art here is very good.

Oh, and it's odd to see an 18 year old Dick Grayson running around in short pants and calling himself Robin. :)

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I think that book was instrumental in the continued vitality of DC. I was a Marvel-boy all the way, and most of the people I knew were. Teen Titans made Marvel people say "Yeah, but check out Teen Titans. It's good."

I enjoyed this book -- it's just a collection of essays about comic books by current professional writers. It's called Give Our Regards to the Atomsmashers. They didn't hedge them in on the topic. They were allowed to write about whatever comics angle was memorable to them. Anyway, one of the writers chose to write about the "Judas Contract" storyline in Teen Titans, and how much it had impacted him. It was huge at the time, and impactful on me as well.

Simply a perfect run - the only thing I didn't like was it took Perez off of JLA.

IAWTP. That run on Teen Titans was/is awesome. It was my only DC title back in the day.

My first Titans issue was this:

Looking at that cover, I have no idea why I bought it. :D

The only non-Perez Titans stuff I have liked was by Wolfman/Grummett (Titans Hunt, etc.) and Johns/McKone.

I liked the Jurgens Titans when it started. And I loved the Johns/McKone Teen Titans.

I haven't read much of this at all.

That's being corrected though.
Archives 1 and 2 are on their way to me now.

Can't wait to get into it.

Johns/McKone run was great.
Loved it.

Pity DC ruined that book.
Killing 2 of its major stars, after aging one, was just silly.

Same thing DC's doing with JLA now, IMO. Seeing that's its successful, assuming it will stay successful, and letting it coast unaided.

Agreed. Until i read the first 2 years of Spider-man*, I hadnt read a story line that measured up to it.

*It is cool that the Spectacular Spider-man cartoon is repeating the first couple years of Spiderman books,

I still re-read this run frequently. It's so well written and Perez just knocks it out of the park.

Funny how they're not in their teens, though. Most are in their 20s by the start of the series.

It's cool that Matt is reading for the first time. This was the book that saved DC in the early '80s. At one point, it was their best-selling book and was keeping pace with X-Men.

Really?! I was a "marvel-boy" as well but if it is that good I might give the Teen Titans a go myself.
