Pleased to see you here, Mr S.. It's good to have an opportunity to say thanks for what you've already done, looking forward to what you will be doing and, on a more trivial note, hope you enjoy hanging out here from time to time and that we don't hassle you too much with questions.

LOL... this is great! So many of these old comics I'm reading have Kurt Busiek writing into the letters pages and Roger Stern responding. This could potentially be like old times!
(BTW, I agree with Kurt in 1980 - you, Byrne and Joe R. smoked on Captain America!)

Just thought I'd ask Mr. Stern the same question I just asked Kurt Busiek:
Do you currently read comic-books on a regular basis (& if so, what?),
or has your enjoyment for comics lessened any since you became
a professional?

That depends upon how you define "regular."
Not to split hairs, but I rarely get to a comic shop these days, and that's just about the only place you can find comics anymore.
I do get a box of comp comics from DC/Vertigo/Wildstorm about once a month, which keeps me (relatively) current with the world of comics. You all probably see a lot more comics -- and sooner -- than I do.
That said, I enjoy reading stuff by Busiek, Byrne, and Johns...and I find myself looking forward to FABLES and Y.
Hmm...this month's box ought to be arriving soon...wonder where it is?

Excellent news about Mid-Ohio-Con, Roger. If you have any left, be sure to bring some more Charlton Portfolios too. I'm sure there are a few fans planning to be there that would like one of those as well.

Speaking of which, a mini-discussion about that book (by way of Blue Beetle #6) recently occurred next door, in DitkoLand, just in case anyone missed it!

a Q for Mr. Stern:
Which DC or Marvel character that you have yet to work one would you like to tackle as writer one day?

I always try to bring a few of my "jams & jellies" along to MidOhioCon...and I do still have a few Charlton Portfolios left. Anyone else going to be there who would be interested in a copy? How about the Newstime special? I have some of those left, as well.

Well, I've written just about every major character at Marvel, with the exception of Daredevil...and that's not likely to happen.
There's a long list of DC characters I'd love to write...The Creeper, Nightmaster, Blackhawks (The Next Generation)...I could go on and on.

Aw, what a cool thread. Before I run low on webbing, thanks for swinging by to see us!
Boy, am I Luely come lately to the board...but could I be the first to ask you about Panini Comics? I just found out about the Astonishing Spider-Man tonight, for the U.K. (and beyond!). If you would enjoy talking about it, we'll spin up a new line (just in time---barely, no doubt!) I would dearly love to translate for Panini in Italia! Any stories of seeing your work translated? Come è la vostra abilità di lingua italiana?

Come è la vostra abilità di lingua italiana? I don't know anything about Astonishing Spider-Man. Some sort of reprint book? A lot of my work has been translated, but I learn about it only if the overseas publishers send me copies. That happens ... sometimes. And of course, if you're talking about Marvel stories, none of us see any royalty monies for foreign reprintings. DC has been paying foreign royalties for decades. Marvel has yet to start. -- Uncle Rog

Mmm-hmm, as you may by now know, Astonishing is a U.K. reprint.
Sorry about the royalty situation, though! I checked out Panini 'cause it was in your Wiki and I noted they've started hiring talent to create original stories with licensed characters for the Euro market. I have to imagine India is the frontier of comics marketing now.

When the Wasp tries to convince Owen Reece, a.k.a. the Molecule Man, he should try to save the world and not just himself and Marsha in Avengers #266, she says, "Think of Saks! Think of children playing hide-and-seek..." That line is SO Van Dyne Wish they'd carried Avengers close to me at the time! (I DID find Siege of Avengers Mansion at a drugstore downtown along with some good New Universe stuff; that's still my personal fave Avengers story) I am enjoying the run with this and Kang very much. Just terrific characterization, Roger.

I hope Jim Shooter contacts you with questions about his last LSH story, the Stargrave Saga. The Legion is one of the last super-hero properties of cross-generational merit that I haven't read very much! He mentioned it today on his blog, which is frankly my very favorite to read.

Stargrave, eh? Now we're going 'way back. Tim Hamilton told me that Jim had started a blog ... I'll have to check that out. -- Uncle Rog
