Iron Man is newer and has much better word of mouth. Hulk will be seen as a sequel no matter what, and that with impact attendance.

My pick is Iron Man also. I think Hulk will not be seen as new or cool or fresh.

But hopefully it will be good.

Iron Man, both worldwide and domestic. I don't think it'll even be close.

1) It comes out first
2) No sequel-itis
3) Action + Humor makes it seem more kid-friendly. Hulk looks more serious.
4) Hype. Iron Man's been building for months, and just about everything seen has been very positively received.

Iron Man will beat The Hulk. People will still be remembering the Ang Lee movie and think it's a sequel to that stinker.

I swung for the fences on this one -- Hulk in both categories. It's a hunch depending on factors I can't really know at this point, but here is my reasoning;

1. Iron Man will be good. It will do high 170's to 200 million.
2. It will contain the awesome trailer of the Hulk, and will itself (Iron Man) be the best advertisement for a return trip to the Hulk movie.
3. The Hulk will get a high percentage of Iron Man viewers for a return trip to the movies.
4. The Hulk will draw additional, non-Iron Man viewers, because he skews a little younger on the demographic. The Hulk has a primal appeal to young boys and worldwide.
5. Word of mouth will be good on the Hulk, and it will have legs.
6. The Ang Lee effect will not be all that negative -- short memory for the younger audiences, and the fanboy "hard to please" audience (me) will not be able to stay away anyway.

If any of these statements is undermined, the conclusion is in doubt. For example, if Iron Man is not good, or does not perform well, Hulk will do worse. People will not be insatiable for more of a mediocre thing.

I think Iron Man will skew younger and be more girl friendly and thus will do better.

That trailer is dark and scary. Can't see mom taking junior to see it.

I forgot to allow for the responsible viewing habits of the American public.

The thing about Iron Man is that fanboys really know how good it is going to be. But to the public, is it another Fantastic Four? If it just opens so-so (not Spider-man ballpark), it will have to be really, really good to keep them coming back over the next few weeks.

I wonder if the "goodness" of Iron Man makes people have a fond memory when its time to decide whether to go see Hulk. The Hulk may benefit.

I guess. Depends if they really connect these movies together.

Like, if Hulk does well, do they connect it to Dark Knight? We wouldn't but does the public distinguish? or do they not even connect Hulk/Iron man.

I have been assuming the reviews are going to be good on Iron Man. That will make a difference.

I think teens, though, will be digging the blowing up the tank and the other cool, different looking shots.

I don't see anything being another Spidey. That was perfect, with cross appeal that the other heroes don't have, for the most part.

This is a busy summer too. Something will be left in the cold.

Check out your local Target or Wal-Mart. The Iron Man toys are out there, and kids in the 5 to 10 range are clamoring for the Iron Man mask and repulsor glove set. My nephew is all pissed off because one of his buddies has one, and he doesn't.

I think "The Incredible Hulk" will do moderate business. About as successful as a Fast and the Furious sequel. #1 opening weekend and then quickly disappear.

Iron Man opens on May 2, kicking off the "summer" season, and will have the market to itself for one week.

Hulk opens on June 13, and will have to compete for dollars with 5 or 6 other probable blockbusters already in theaters (Iron Man, Speed Racer, Narnia, Indiana Jones, Kung Fu Panda, The Happening).

I say Iron Man cleans the Hulk's clock.
