Does this not kick major ass?

What Geoff Johns has done and continues to do with the concept of Green Lantern is as significant to that character(s) as Frank Miller's Daredevil was to Daredevil and Walt Simonson's Thor was to Thor.

I'm digging these new "corps" we have. Last week, we saw the first Red Lantern (whose ring is powered by rage/hatred). Soon we will be seeing orange, blue and indigo corps.

Anybody else reading this besides me? Right now, they are my favorite ongoing comic titles.

Pic... for those who didn't catch the debut of the first recruited Red Lantern...

I'm reading and enjoying Green Lantern. I was bored by the title initially (never been much of a Green Lantern or Hal Jordan fan) and dropped the book around issue 6. I came back starting with the stories leading up to the Sinestro War, and I'm in it for the long haul. Like you, I love what Johns has done with the corps. I know some fans are a little cold about the different Lanterns, feeling that they take away from the uniqueness of the Green Lanterns. But, I think the concept adds a fascinating layer to the whole Green Lantern mythos.

This trilogy that Johns constructed has an epic quality about it that I don't often see in typical super-hero comics. It has an "event" feel without being the usual bloated event. (The Powers That Be at DC and Marvel should take note -- this is how an "event" should be crafted.) Best of all, the story feels like a natural progression within the framework of the title, as opposed to a big shakeup occuring within a book for the primary purpose of launching a new title with a "hot" creative team.

Johns' GL is big. Epic like big. Without having to involve the rest of the DCU in it to make it that way. It's fun. It's well researched. It's one of the only titles I eagerly await and am left wanting more when I'm finished reading it. GL even has some "not tried before" ideas in it (The multi-spectrum of lanterns, the zombie corps, the new laws, the alpha lanterns, etc). Johns has been sucessful at "rocking the boat" without having to kill the essence of the characters to make it interesting.

I'm impressed. So far.

I'm enjoying it. I don't like the GL Corps book, and only bought it when it was Sinestro Corps War crossover. But the GL title just keeps getting better and better.

The different colored Corps, and the shenanigans the Guardians are up to -- it makes you wonder why someone hasn't done this before.

I am impressed at how Johns has been able to sustain the momentum since Rebirth.

This series really shows what a kickass movie GL would make.

I picked up this book until OYL. Picked up the Sinestro special (kicking off the War I guess). I'd probably like the book, but I can't buy everything. May pick it up in trade.

That said, at first glance, I don't like the idea of the rainbow lanterns.

I do like the Johns is able to carry out his vision without the rest of the DCU getting pulled into some colossal crossover event. Johns is to DC what Brubaker is to Marvel. He went through a "as Bendis is to Marvel" phase and that's when I retreated as a fan. He seems to be back on track.

Believe it or not, I finally got around to reading Rebirth for the very first time this morning.

Wow.

Just.

Wow.

I was completely blown away.

Looks like I have some work ahead of me picking up some trades and back issues now.

Oh, and Van Sciver is simply amazing.

More like movie series. The concept could work for several films, and in the right hands, could put the Star Wars films to shame.

I like it. So far it has been a very solid series. It helps that the artwork has been great from start to finish.

Might as well call it "The Obama Corps." (The blue power rings are powered by "hope.")

I know. I thought Hal was unsalvageable until Johns did his thing. And he did it in a way that didn't diminish Kyle Rayner either. Johns is something special.

Rebirth is what brought me back to DC Comics.

The GL series has not been quite that good. I feel it's just now hitting it's stride after all the OYL stuff knocked everything out of whack.

I'm a huge GL fan, and at first, I was wary about Kyle's place in all this, but Geoff has shown the character a lot of respect.
I buy Gl and GL Corps in both singles and trades, and love them.
Only complaint: GL is in hardcovers (yay) but GL Corps is only released in softcovers.(boo)

Does that mean the Yellow Lanterns would be "The Bush Corps" (The yellow power rings are powered by "fear").

Sorry, but it was the obvious response. :)

Geoff Johns is to Green Lantern what Mark Waid was to the Flash - he just has a perfect handle on the character, his powers, his universe, the whole package. He doesn't just get wrapped up in the history and go all retro, instead he uses it to tell new stories.

Naa... the Bush Corps would be the Green Lanterns... 'cause, y'know, he's had the willpower to perservere these last 8 years under a barrage of negativity from his opponents.

I think Johns' expansion of the Green Lantern concept is akin to Waid's expansion of the Flash (adding the revelation of the "Speed Force" is a lot like the revelation of the other Corps).

Something else I find fascinating...

Orange power rings are powered by avarice (envy/greed). Green has been long associated with those emotions, but since in Green Lantern lore green symbolizes willpower, it had to be changed.
