DMB's Georgia Peach Heading To CD/DVD

November 09, 2007, 11:15 AM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Dave Matthews Band's Sept. 8 show at Atlanta's Piedmont Park is headed to CD and DVD Dec. 11 via Bama Rags/RCA. The performance raised more than $1 million to assist the expansion of the park.

Among the notable tracks featured here are the new songs "Cornbread," "#27" and "Eh Hee," plus a sequence featuring re-worked versions of "So Much To Say," "Anyone Seen the Bridge" and "Too Much."

Warren Haynes from opening act the Allman Brothers Band guests on "what Would You Say," while Gregg Allman joined Matthews on vocals for a cover of the Allman Brothers' classic "Melissa."

Fans who pre-order from DMB's Web store will receive extra music: all orders will receive a 4-track bonus disc of live tracks from the 2007 summer tour, while fans who order the CD/DVD package will get an 8-song live disc.

DMB will perform Tuesday (Nov. 13) in East Rutherford, N.J., leading up to two private shows for students at West Point on Nov. 14-15, with support from Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

The number of Dave Matthews live CDs continues to multiply at an exponential rate.

i'm pretty sure that the dave meatthews band allows, and encourages, taping at thier shows ala the greatful dead.

there is probably a huge tape trading network among their community.

which begs the question:

who buys these live CD's they release almost monthly?

I don't collect DMB but as a Deadhead I get buying live albums when all the shows are out there for free. There is always a sonic upgrade for shows you already have (I always buy the live Dead even when I already have the show) and if you don't have the show even if the songs are the same the performances are new, hopefully fresh. It's just like having 15 versions of Coltrane performing My Favorite Things (not that I am equating DMB or GD with 'Trane).

You can get an audience recording of this and just about every show via the online trading community, as the band is "taper friendly" - they do NOT allows soundboard patches any longer. The released shows...via their Live Trax series as well as various live albums are all mixed from multi-track tapes.

Speaking for myself, I'll buy any NEW music by Dave. But enough with the live albums. ENOUGH!!! How many friggin versions of "Watchtower" do we really need?!
