2007 release of a CD/DVD (PAL/Region 0) package of a vintage Fall show that was the final concert played in London's Hammersmith Palais. Fall singer Mark E Smith would no more issue a valediction to the iconic venue than he would come on stage in a tutu or sing in Swahili. Thirty years into their career, The Fall retain their singular, ascetic purity. This CD/DVD (PAL format) is a mass of contradictions, and a great art-rock record by a man who still thinks art-rock is for ponces. Sanctuary.

The Hammersmith DVD/CD combo release has been put on hold to make way for this album, it should get a release mid-late this year.


"This album" being, of course, "Imperial Wax Solvent", the new Fall studio album which will be released on the Castle label on April 28, 2008. Sanctuary has the worldwide rights to this release, so Narnack (label which released the last few Fall albums in America) is history in the US (meaning one consistent release). The Fall's Hammersmith CD/DVD, re-titled "Last Night at the Palais", will finally see the light of day, with a new tentative release date of August 25, 2009 in the US (8/24/09 in UK). This is a pro-shot multi-camera affair, featuring the infamous line-up with "The Dudes", the short-lived twin-guitar/twin-bass assault that took over for the gruppe that was sacked (stateside and mid-tour) by MES in the infamous "banana peel" incident. Essential !!
