http://www.nme.com/news/bruce-springsteen/27580 Bruce Springsteen makes surprise appearance in New York
Apr 6, 2007
Rock 'n' roll legend Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance at a tribute event held in his honour in New York last night (April 5).
Taking to the stage at Carnegie Hall, he performed three songs for the delighted crowd, two of which he performed acoustically.
Punk legend Patti Smith also appeared, performing her Springsteen-penned hit 'Because The Night' as well as actor Kevin Bacon, who sang a version of the Oscar-winning song 'Streets Of Philadelphia' with his band The Bacon Brothers.
A string of acts performed Springsteen covers throughout the evening, including Badly Drawn Boy, The Hold Steady and Steve Earle, all of whom played to benefit of the Music For Youth programme - an initiative supporting music education for underprivileged children in New York.
While on stage, the New Jersey rocker made light of the nostalgic nature of the show, saying "The good news is... I'm not dead yet."
The Boss also stopped to pay particular tribute to the wheelchair-bound blues/folk legend Odetta, who had earlier delivered what he described as "the best version of '57 Channels' I ever heard".
The full list of songs and performers ran:
Steve Earle - 'Nebraska' The Bacon Brothers - 'Streets Of Philadelphia' Elysian Fields - 'Streets Of Fire' Josh Ritter - 'The River' Patti Smith - 'Because The Night' Marah - 'The Rising' The Holmes Brothers & The Young People's Chorus Of NYC - 'My City Of Ruin' Robin Holcomb - 'Brilliant Disguise' Jersey Guys with Bobby Valli - 'Jersey Girl' North Mississippi Allstars - 'Spirit In The Night' Uri Caine - 'New York Serenade' Juliana Hatfield - 'Cover Me' Low Stars - 'One Step Up' Badly Drawn Boy - 'Thunder Road' Joseph Arthur - 'Born In The USA' Pete Yorn - 'Dancing In The Dark' Jesse Malin & Ronnie Spector - 'Hungry Heart' M. Ward - 'I'm Going Down' Odetta - '57 Channels' The Hold Steady - 'Atlantic City' Bruce Springsteen - 'This Promised Land', 'Rosalita'(acoustic),'Rosalita'(electric)

Stuff like this makes me wish I lived in America.
The best we can hope for over here is a Savage Garden reunion tour.....

Wow, I'd KILL to hear that Hold Steady cover. One of the best rock bands around currently.
I've heard Malin do Hungry Heart before and it's really good.

There was very little fanfare for this show here in NYC. I toyed with the idea of getting a single ticket, but the date came and went before I got around to it.

31 Nights to Rock
The 2007 E Street Band itinerary
Here's what we've been waiting for. And if you don't see what you've been waiting for... like hey, no shows south of D.C.?... don't worry just yet: If history serves as any guide, Springsteen and the E Street Band won't be calling a halt to the new tour after two-and-a-half months. We fully expect to see this machine motoring well into 2008, hitting more cities (and countries) as they go. But for now, at last, here's the full 2007 rundown.
October 2 Hartford, CT October 5 Philadelphia, PA October 9-10 East Rutherford, NJ October 14 Ottawa, ONT October 15 Toronto, ONT October 17-18 New York, NY October 21 Chicago, IL October 26 Oakland, CA October 28 Los Angeles, CA November 2 St Paul, MN November 4 Cleveland, OH November 5 Auburn Hills, MI November 11 Washington, D.C. November 14 Pittsburgh, PA November 15 Albany, NY November 18 Boston, MA
November 25 Madrid, SPAIN November 26 Bilbao, SPAIN November 28 Milan, ITALY November 30 Arnhem, NETHERLANDS December 2 Mannheim, GERMANY December 4 Oslo, NORWAY December 8 Copenhagen, DENMARK December 10 Stockholm, SWEDEN December 12 Antwerp, BELGIUM December 13 Cologne, GERMANY December 15 Belfast, IRELAND December 17 Paris, FRANCE December 19 London, UK
That's 31 nights to rock -- and then some, I'll bet, with room in the schedule for additional two-fers in some cities. Be sure to stay alert for added shows once tickets go on sale.

Like Backstreets reported, it'll be a quick 31 dates and then 2008 will be a much longer tour.

Surprising that he's doing Ottawa and Toronto on consective dates, and then skipping Montreal, which is hop, skip, and a jump away.

Hey Marvin,
Read the interview I posted that Bruce did with Backstreets, he seems very excited about this tour.

Glad to see he's playing NYC (The Garden, presumably), so I don't have to haul myself out to the Meadowlands. Or will these be Stadium dates?

I'm guessing the NYC dates are MSG.
Too bad he can't put the Nassau Coliseum on the list.

Just read the "Backstreets" interview. Great to hear how pumped-up Bruce is about the album and tour. That can only bode well for the fans. Everybody ready to take the ride one more time?!

I've been a fan since pretty much the early days, a subscriber to "Backstreets" for 27 years, and I still get excited everytime there is a tour announcement.
By the way, an upcoming issue of "Backstreets" will have a story on Raspberries written by me.

The story on Raspberries (and Bruce's love for the band), was slated to be in the next issue of "Backstreets:, but now with a new Bruce tour and album taking precedent, the story might be pushed back.

If you're able, please let us know when it might be included.
In the meantime, let's hop aboard the train...

Chris Phillips (editor of "Backstreets") told me that the story would be in the next issue, but let's see what happens. I totally understand the need for "Magic" and the tour to be in the forefront and get priority now.
